What does it mean that Jrue was playing with pain last night?

In the post game interview Jen Hale asked him how is ankle felt and he admitted there was some pain and he was going to have to ice it down. Presumably they wouldn't put him out there if he would make things worse, but still having pain at this stage seems odd to me if he were getting better. I know we have some doctor types and people who've had stress fractures.

1 Is ongoing pain less than 2 years out part of the process and will go away in time?
2 Will he always have this pain and just needs to learn how to play through it?
3 Does he need another procedure which is why he can't do any harm playing on it?

He's recovering still. The pain will go away over time unless there's permanent damage there (unlikely). But they haven't told us anything so we'll see

Totally unqualified to speculate but #3 seems likely.

you need surgery but playing on it won't make it worse(which seems unlikely with this type of injury). if you can take the pain you can play and have offseason surgery.

He said he felt fine during the game but it was sore after he stopped moving around. It's about what I'd expect.

They ice down anyway. It's a change in activity, so maybe the need is more.

The comment and ice mean far less than if and how he plays these last 3. Not alarmed if he misses one for rest either.

Yeah he said he felt good during the game and that he trusted his leg so I'm not particularly worried.

I agree with letting him play Sunday and resting him Monday so we can get 15 mins of d on Parker on Wednesday

All reasonable.

No reason for bone to not cause when stressed then cause it when unstressed. Sounds like fluid, soft tissue, if we can trust his testimony (he may not have been doing diagnostically valuable activiity, but he was playing his tail off, soooo... i take his word).

As such, normal. Good call on taking a mini Minne rest (could not resist, will accept punishment).

15-20 minutes of balls to the wall D from Holiday on Curry is probably not what they wanted to see develop in the bayou. The minute restriction provides its own benefits. Jrue doesn't have to worry about foul trouble or getting winded.

It is certainly possible that a stress reaction (precursor to a stress fracture) can get worse by playing on it. Ultimately it can lead to a situation where a bone is weakened to the point it can fully fracture - think of Louisville's Kevin Ware's injury against Duke a few years back. That was likely due to an undetected stress fracture.

Hopefully they are monitoring it closely - my best guess is he will play limited minutes the remainder of the season and playoffs.

Well since I don't I have access to his records, I am just going to spitball and say he was sore because he isn't a 100% healed and it was his first night back.

Pain or soreness? Because there is a big difference between the two

I'm almost positive Jen asked if he was sore and he said it hurt a little bit or something similar

should see how he feels at the end of next week, always going to be issues throughout the whole body when you haven't played in that long.

Just speculation but my theory is that him being in a boot for so long caused some of the muscle around his lower leg to atrophy and the pain/soreness is just from having to basically rebuild his muscle support around those bones. Just a guess

If it matters, I'm looking at an updated injury report. DC has been added, Holiday is not listed on it. He is also not listed as a probable starter, as expected.
