What's the point of no return on training a dog to hunt (GSP)

My GSP will be 2 this summer. Pretty sure the wife ruined his chances of being a hunter when he was a puppy... He displays the natural instinct to hunt, point, and he does retrieve but he is by no means ready to be taken to the feild. Anything I can do or is he now just a family pet that points at table scraps and dragonflies?

I would think if he is still showing instinct you could still work and train him - if not you could always get another one...

I have an idea.

I have 10 pups that are 4 days old. What you should do is keep him as the wife's dog and get a brand new puppy to train.

And just like that, Citica has a new best friend.

That not my first choice, with space and all but the wife would probably ruin that one too while I'm not home, just seeing if I can turn mine into more than a pet if time is dedicated. "Old dog new tricks" and what not

I have had a lot of people ask about my dog after seeing him... You got pictures?

Get a new wife.

Get dyslexics puppy.

Get more kills.

Hey could you save that Pams Party Line section of the paper for me before they piss and shite all over it? I think that's the one where she discusses which centerpiece you use for different occasions.

Got a wine party coming up soon and I don't want to look like some **** with a fruit bowl on my table.

Do yourself a favor and buy a GWP instead.

ETA: a Drahthaar specifically

Not trading in the wife for a puppy.

Not doing all that forced regional training for a DD... Not really looking to potty train another dog before I get my kid out of diapers.

Just want to see if I can make my current one less of a lapdog and more of one I can bring to the camp or on one of those penned quail outfitters.

Talk that dog to the woods/ fields for walks. Get him into birds. Very few shorthairs are missing hunting drive and you can't beat it out of them.

The one I have is a pet, don't really need him feild tested and certified like a MD cause I'm not breeding him.
