We always make that pick from out of nowhere. Could Ali Marpet be that pick this year?

First, I have nothing to base this on...whatsoever.

But, Marpet is similar to Terron Armstead in that they both ran the fastest 40 for an OL in their respective years and are from small schools. Marpet has gained some steam since the Senior Bowl and has been mentioned as a 2nd or 3rd round pick as someone who needs a year or so to develop...similar to Armstead. The Saints need a OG and eventual replacement for Evans. The Saints also have two third round picks.

Maybe someone to keep an eye on?

Ali Marpet, OG
School: Hobart & William Smith
Hometown: Hastings-on-Hudson, NY
Height/Weight: 6-4 / 307 lbs.

Marpet looked terrific in position drills. He moved very well and displayed violent hand punch. Many now feel confident they will be able to use him in a power-running offense, something I thought possible when he handled Danny Shelton during Senior Bowl practice.

He has a solid chance of being gone by then.

I like him a lot in the 3rd round, but I don't think he will come in right away and beat out Lelito. I don't see anything wrong with the pick as long as we draft an offensive tackle as well that can move inside to guard and start week 1. I doubt he would be ready to play until the end of the season comes around...but I've been wrong before. jmo

I agree. I know we've had success with small school O-lineman in the mid rounds, but D3 is just beyond small school. I think we need to draft someone who can push Lelito from day 1. Like you said, I could be wrong though.

I've seen as high as second round and as low as fourth round. It looks like a few teams like the 49ers, Eagles and Browns have been really following him. But if he's there in the third, I could see us taking him since we have the extra pick.

He will be gone by pick 75. Need to jump to about pick 24 of the second round I think.

He's totally a Saints kind of player. But I fear we don't get a shot at him if we wait to the 3rd round.

His DL nemesis would be a Marpet Cruncher?
