Sorry to ruffle some feathers
I think the feathers were ruffled because the general consensus is that WW is a better looking game than TP, especially the HD version of WW.

Regardless, if you liked TP, you'll probably like WW. They are both Zelda games after all and have similar gameplay. However, I would argue that if you liked TP you would probably really like Ocarina of Time. I feel like TP is Nintendo's half-attempt at remaking OOT.

Looking at Wind Waker, the graphics look horrible compared to TP

To each their own I guess, but I don't know how you can say this.

Also, the graphics are timeless

Best way to describe it.

By not going for realism to begin with, they don't have to worry about the graphics becoming outdated.

I agree. But had I grown up with nothing but advanced gen consoles, I'd probably prefer The Show.

I guess I'm the only one that prefers the former to the latter. But I'm not a hard core gamer. I play maybe once a week at most. So I'm not as keen to the nuances of what makes a game so great, graphically speaking.

No, I think most agree with you. The former is much better.

I don't get how bright colors and cartoony designs makes it "timeless"

The only definition of "timeless" I would accept is the idea that the graphics don't look as dated as quickly.

Windwaker is one of my favorite gaming experiences. I need to get a WiiU.

Comparing Wind Waker GC to Twilight Princess is one thing, but Wind Waker HD to Twilight Princess is another matter.

Standard definition Twilight Princess doesn't look so hot blown up on an HD screen and Wind Waker HD is more than the GameCube version with a higher resolution.

So it's the worst Zelda game of all time to you?

I said on console. Yes, I prefer;

1. Ocarina of Time
2. Link to the Past
3. Majora's Mask
4. Twilght Princess
5. Zelda
6. Zelda II
7. Wind Waker

I have not played Skyward sword or Four swords. So maybe those rank lower for me.

I am old enough to have played all of those when they first came out so nostalgia does play into some of it for me.

The sailing mechanic of WindWaker just never will sit well with me, I hate it. I have played through it on gamecube and Wii U.

Also want to point out, that out of all of the non NES titles, it has the lowest user score on metacritic. So it is not some crazy idea.

Why does everyone keep bringing up the story? I love Zelda games but the story is not even close to a strong suit on any of them.

Exactly. I think there's a reason WW is the only Zelda game Nintendo has remade with updated graphics on a home console. It didn't require much work to get it looking beautiful on the Wii U since it aged so well. Updating something like TP would require much more effort since they went with a more realistic style there. More realism requires more detail and the more detailed you get, the easier it is to see the "cracks" in what they are trying to portray. Everything looks simpler in WW but that's to its advantage, both from a technical standpoint and an artistic one.

I also think the cartoon style makes identifying with Link (and other characters) easier. It reminds me of Scott McCloud's book, "Understand Comics." He makes this claim, which I agree with:

I would never claim the stories are Game of Thrones-level drama, but some of them have a nice, simple, fairy tale charm to them that has been very effective at times. WW's story might be the best at that in the series.

The way I'm looking at it is the same way you would watch a disney movie today and cartoons in general. They have the benefit of not having to deal with special effects and makeup so that type of thing doesn't look as quickly outdated as a live action movie would today.

Compare the special effects in a movie like Clash of the Titans from 1981 to the 2010 remake for example.

Look at OoT. The graphics were great for their time, but look at them today.

I agree with the notion that it was surely easier for them to update the grahics for "HD"

But not that it ages better. I still feel like TP looks much better than the HD update to WW. I will feel that way no matter how many years pass.

Opinions are opinions, I suppose.

This, and what others have said, is what I was going for.

When the game doesn't try to be realistic, it just becomes a cartoon fantasy world. That's fine. When it tries to be realistic, it can dive into that uncanny valley and becomes dated really quickly

But I'm talking about right now. I'm not talking 10 years down the road. I'm accustomed to TP's graphics which I think are much better than WW. 10 years from now, I may thing TP is junk and WW holds up. But not right now.

And I've never played on an HD TV so there's also that aspect.

I'm simply saying that it didn't take a ton of work to make WW look beautiful even by modern standards, which should be an indication of it's "timelessness."

Twilight Princess was released in 2006. For me, who purchased it on release day, I am talking nearly 10 years.

My advice still stands. If you are looking for another Zelda game and want to play it on Wii U, WW HD is a fine choice. You should also probably play OOT. The Zelda game being made specifically for the Wii U won't be out until 2016. That should be enough time to play through both of those.

The general familiarity, but always with unique twists, is, again, part of the charm of Zelda games. Is the story some complex beast of political and social commentary wrapped in intrigue, surprise and terror? Probably not.

But Zelda games, through the filter of near mythic structure, take the same general idea, paste it onto a new world with different flourishes. It's kind of a brilliant part of the whole thing. It's essentially a repeating tale, that is always told differently.

If you can't see the beauty in the simplicity of that effect, you're missing out on how enthralling LotZ canon games can really be. Every single time I play a LotZ game, I'm pulled back to my first experience in 1987 playing LotZ without fail, so it's this weird mish-mash of nostalgia and real time experience. It's a completely new, yet familiar experience.

As an aside, In games, and in film and tv, people are so focused on "overblownl stories," that they miss out on the simple exercise of experiencing feeling in narrative. They need surprises, shocks, wide ranging emotions and implications. They almost need too much to really know what they are experiencing. LotZ, in gaming, has always been a call back to simple mythic narrative and that's awesome.

Jesus, why don't you and LofZ get a fricking room already.
