The second issue with these laws is a moral one: We rarely make similar demands of other recipients of government aid. We don't drug-test farmers who receive agriculture subsidies (lest they think about plowing while high!). We don't require Pell Grant recipients to prove that they're pursuing a degree that will get them a real job one day (sorry, no poetry!). We don't require wealthy families who cash in on the home mortgage interest deduction to prove that they don't use their homes as brothels (because surely someone out there does this). The strings that we attach to government aid are attached uniquely for the poor.

If I have to dedicate a portion of my income taxes to subject the underclass with lobster, cheerios and puddin pops, I will choose that option every time.

You were correct - this article gets me pretty steamed up b/c I know people actually think like this.

It's not a double standard. We all work hard for money - they're getting it for free and should not be permitted to use it on drugs. I don't tolerate laziness, incompetence, or dishonesty - I'm an ESTJ so I'm allowed to feel this way.

LOL at comparing Farmers and people in college and homeowners to people on welfare.

3 of them contribute to society.

This women is obviously a liberal progressive who compares tax breaks for farmers and other productive citizens with out right government dependents. There is a difference that her ideology will never allow her to recognize.

He has a point. Let's start drug testing farmers! Or better yet, let's just get rid of all of the entitlements!

At least they work and contribute something to society.

We should. This is the biggest racket in the educational system.

What a retarded "theory".

Yet they help the economy spin. Can't say the same about welfare folks - they are just a drain.

Who wrote this shite anyway? It's garbage. Pell Grants are for people who are furthering their education, not for people buying 40's and psychic readings from Ms. Cleo.

That took some mental gymnastics to equate the two things.

Sure, even better off people can take advantage of tax breaks and other services. The difference is that welfare often goes to people that do nothing in return for society. However it also goes to people who have fallen on hard times, and are legitimately struggling.

So yes, I think it should be scrutinized. The do nothings on drugs and living it up need a swift kick in the arse. Welfare isn't for people who don't want to work, it is for people who can't or need help getting back on their feet.

I honestly didn't know where to start when I began my expletive filled critique.

The two that really got me were comparing mortgage interest refunds to a government handout. And the statement about "poor people don't do drugs more than the population at large." The population at large isn't wasting their money on drugs then having Uncle Sam fill their pantry.

I agree

Nobody on any level should receive anything from or contribute anything to the government.

You do have to stay eligible to stay in school to receive that financial aid. Most colleges have a satisfactory progress rate you have to meet to receive it. You also cannot be convicted of a felony drug charge to receive it as well I believe. So this is the ultimate load of bullshite.

They need to go back to government stores/rations. When my Dad was laid off from the railroad for about 6 months in the late 80s there was no chips, cokes, lottery tickets, and all that other bullshite. And guess what? We made due with a family of four. I can remember shite being tighter when my parents were working but making too much to get any kind of assistance.

Don't like what welfare is turning into? Go get a couple jobs and get off of it. Spread my work ethic, not my wealth.
