Checked out this place Monday evening before softball. Being they were still in a soft opening the menu was limited. Had the burger with pimento cheese. Bun was super light but still held everything together. It was a 2 patty style dressed with house pickle and lettuce.

Manager was super friendly and helpful. Will def be back when menu expands.

I wonder why more restaurants don't put pimento cheese on burgers. Seems like a good idea.

That burger is twice as tall as necessary and shredded lettuce on a burger is a PITA.

I've been to this place and found it to be pretty good.
The picture in this thread is not the best representation.

It was a simple menu, the staff was nice, the beer was cold, and they had a playground for the kids.

I'll visit it again.

Sounds like my own backyard. If I want a simple burger, I'll just fix it at home.

Shredded lettuce makes me question the quality of the rest. Poor judgement there

For two patties that's a shameful amount of protein. Nope. And the lettuce is obviously an issue. I want pimento cheese on a burger, I'm going to High Hat.

As others have said, the lettuce choice is really bad. Has the owner ever eaten a burger before? And was the pimento cheese served hot or cold?

"We're not going to win any James Beard award," Tournillon said. "We're not trying to. But we know how to do things right." The Backyard also aims to be quick. "Nothing in the kitchen," he said, "takes more than six and half minutes to cook."

The half dozen draft beers are all regional. The cocktails are simple. "The kind of drinks," Tournillon said, "you make at home."

The Backyard has a tree-shaded backyard with room for kids to run around and heavy-duty playground equipment.

I may try it, but this doesn't seem like anything I'd visit on a regular basis.

Oh lawd.
It's tooty. Went to Stanislaus with Jason. We called him tooty.

He's a nice guy. He's had lots of different careers. With that said, good luck to him.

The photos dont make the place look very inviting for a family type spot. Lots of dead space, the backyard will be a mudpit in no time, and the patio furniture in tatters.

ETA: love the insinuation that James Beard types cant cook burgers and hot dogs. Fairly certain Thonas Keller's ad hoc kickstarted the whole family style, comfort food genre
