That's sad, but it's for the best.

Hang tough.

Sounds like she's letting you know it's time. When they stop eating and drinking, there's not much else to do.

I feel for you. Toughest thing I've ever had to do was put my black Lab down four years ago. Hang in there. Time is the great healer (that and a new dog when you're ready).

it's weird but I think there's something to that, I left the house yesterday around 9:45am to run some errands and he was suffering pretty bad, texted the wife to say it's time to call in hospice, went back home at 1:30pm to check on him, rubbed him on the head and side of his face, he looked me in the eyeand let go, like he waited for me to say goodbye

I got the same kind of look from my Belle right before we put her down. She was laying a pool of her own waste and she just looked at me a really sad look and put her head down as if she'd given up.

13 years is a great run for a Lab. Love on her till it's done. Prayers sent.

I love dogs. I'm so sorry you are having to do that. Labs are so friendly and are such good dogs.

The fact that you have kept 2 dogs well up in their years says you are a great pet owner, don't be hard on yourself take the time to heal and when it fells right get another one, there are many dogs out there that need people like you to love them. We have a 7 yr old lab and an 8 yr old mutt rescue, love them both.

Yes it does. Just know that being a ball bag for a few days is completely normal. When my last dog died...5 years ago, I was a wreck. My daughter and wife thought I was nuts, but that dog and I were tight.

It probably took 2 years before I was ready for a new dog. Of course, having 2 kids in those 2 years may have had more to do with the timeline.

We took our 14 year-old rescued chocolate Lab to the vet for a checkup 3 years ago and it being close to Christmas, the vet had a Santa for those who wanted a picture with their pet. We had a picture made of Brownie sitting and looking up at Santa. Came home the next day to find Brownie had passed away in the bedroom. Three days later the picture comes in from the photographer, our Christmas present from Brownie.

Horrible - my condolences. I thought I was going to have to put my boston terrier down not long ago. He's almost 13 and was there before either of my kids. He had a bad reaction after being put under for a teeth cleaning. He ended up spending 4 days in an oxygen tank at Sherwood South, but recovered fully.
