My iphone has teh aids and keeps saying "no sim installed"

my free upgrade is on 6/22

Anyone have an experience where they give the free upgrade in advance without doing the AT&T Next program?

summary: phone has the aids, I want a replacement now, I don't want to do AT&T Next

Thoughts? Comments? TIA

Yeah, it can be done but I don't think my COR stores like to do it greater than 30 days from contract end date. They've changed one of the compensation components to push the stores to have around 80% of all upgrades to include NEXT. I mention that so you can prepare for them to imply it can't be done without using NEXT.

We found out that the Free phone actually increased our bill because we lost the discount for being on the 160 family plan.

They really want you to the Next. I did that for my wife's phone and we kept the discount but now pay for the phone, my bill did not increase as much as it did when I went with the free phone.

so good luck

Thanks for the summary. I would have never taken the time to read all 3 sentences

Well yeah if you are on a Mobile Shared Plan it is often more advantageous to leverage NEXT for the 15 dollar discount.

Why not just buy the phone outright, then choose a service you like? That way you can drop ATT whenever you want.

I'm out of the switching services phase of my life..I've had AT&T for years and have no intention of switching unless they really piss me off. I am happy with the price, and happy with the customer service...sometimes service is a little spotty but I'm content.

I'm on a family share plan and I've been a customer for at least 7 years now, maybe I can leverage that.

Why would I lose a discount by getting a free phone....can you explain that one to me? I'm on a mobile share plan if that helps.

I upgraded the other day.

Basically, with the next they were going to increase my bill monthly by $25-32 (depending on what plan I went with 12/18/24), and take my unlimited data away and give me 10 gigs.

No thank you.

I paid ~$340 for the iPhone 6+ 64gig. Could have gotten one for $100 cheaper but I hate the white face iphone.

I recommend you find a phone that can get you through until 6/22 so you don't have to pay some full absurd price

How did you get a 6+ for so cheap?

I assume that's on contract?

Because ATT wants to get out of the "free phone" business and that means fricking you by having you pay for the entire cost of the phone through "NEXT". They take away your discount because you didn't go with their spectacular plan to shove a hot poker in your a-hole.

Next and Edge work out about equal for most people even though people love to hate them

The only people who do get screwed are those with really old plans, and usually they are individual plans

Family plans usually come out cheaper with EDGE/NEXT

Yes. Upgraded with 2 year contract and they gave me $91 for my phone. Forgot about that part. Was roughly $340 after tax.

Unless you're trying to keep a really old plan, NEXT is likely to save money. You've always paid the full price of your phone, they just didn't show you how much of your plan pays for it. Now you pay a monthly "note" on your phone but you get a discount on your plan ($15/$25 depending whether you have more or less than 10gigs shared).

My bill went up 14 dollars when my wife and I switched to Verizon Next

Even though the bill went up, I didn't have to pay the 299, 399, and 80 dollar upgrade charges upfront.

This. Do a 2 year cost breakdown and you're likely to break even or be a little cheaper, but with the opportunity to get a new phone sooner. And for those who might think you have to trade in your phone to upgrade, that's only if it's not paid off. If you complete the pay cycle you choose, the phone is yours and you're free to upgrade or pay a reduced monthly bill at that point.

The only way I don't see it as worth it is if you truly use your unlimited data.

Have you checked the card to make certain it's seated properly and the contacts are not corroded or full of dust and lint?
