I'm passing through Houston and need lunch Thursday. I've been to Lupe and El Tiempo and liked both. I've also tried Gatlin's BBQ so I'm looking for something new. It doesn't matter what type of food as long as it's good.

Any recs? Thanks in advance.

It's good also, but they are two totally different kind of places with totally different menus. Just not my ideal place for lunch. It's really dark and divey. I like sunlight and being outside.

Shepards pie is great there.

Was in Houston a few weeks ago and had a great lunch at Provisions. Think the name is Past & Provisions, but the bar section is "Past". The food was excellent (not cheap), and the entire menu was interesting. Had some pastas, sandwiches, pizza, etc.

^^This^^

Also in Heights area:
Downhouse
Ruggles Green

*Best kept secret in Houston Food Scene- On Thursdays only, the Sacred Heart Society on Whitney Oaks has a Pasta Luncheon. Get there early because it gets packed around 12ish and the reguralry run out of favorites. Basically its a bunch of retired Sicilians that make fantastic homemade Italian food, everytime i eat there I get so full I typically skip supper.
-Lasagna (my wifes fav)
-Pasta and Meatballs
-Italian Sausage
-Breaded Pork Chops
-Breaded chicken
-Eggplant Parm
-Garlic Bread
-Etc

This place is pretty much a guaranteed quick lunch, I've only been here for dinner a few times but never waited:

Pollo Bravo - Peruvian Chicken (get the taquito appetizer)

If you like/have time to visit SW Houston and want Thai/Indian options, I have plenty of those.

Central Market sandwiches are quick and good. Qin Dynasty has awesome Chinese and a great lunch special. Good Company Seafood and Liberty Kitchen are both solid and quick around lunch.

Underbelly has a nice lunch menu ... one of them $$$ or $$$$ places that knocks back the price a bit for some lunch specials ... have a fabulous roasted chicken dish (with a HUGE biscuit) ...
