Anyone still use one of these things? For some reason they seem like they would actually be easier

Yes I use one for my sideyard. Cast iron that I got from my grandpa. It would probably cut a transmission in half

I have one but I pay someone to cut my grass. I dd just buy a real lawnmower as I am now living in the house full time and will cut my own grass

probably less accurate and have to mow some areas multiple times, but I'm sure it would work

my dad had a manual push reel-type
works great for him because he only has about 1000 sq ft of grass
reel type mowers leave a very nice cut, they use them on golf greens

Perfect for courtyards. Don't have one but could use one rather than using a weedeater on that space.

Scruffy has one. It is good for a workout, but shite at cutting grass.

Maybe if you mow the grass everyday in the summer.

Probably need to sharpen it

Used to be forced to use one in a courtyard at a rich family's house. Only about 200 sqft though.
Supposedly give a better cut though. Also better for the grass.

It would be a bitch if you only cut twice a week in the middle of the summer.

It's called a reel mower, not a no engine mower. They work well on the right types of grass when they are really sharp. All other times, they suck

My brother used one when he lived in Montana and had a short mowing season.

I bought one, it works but is a pain in the arse when the grass gets tall. It also is slow and mows a narrow path. In fact, just the other day I broke down and bought a used gas mower. It was a good effort but I couldn't do it anymore.

I have one. It's not as thorough or efficient.

I live out in the sticks, so it would probably be too frustrating to use unless I meticulously picked up every twig in the yard.

I own one. Our house is only on a third of an acre lot so not much to cut.
Pros:
- I can cut whatever time I want to. It's next to noiseless. No annoyed neighbors.
- The cutting method leaves the grass healthier compared to rotary blades. This means my grass bounces back quicker after a cut and is less prone to disease because of a cleaner cut.
- Reel mowers have an available adjustment that is thousands of times more customizable than a rotary cut riding or push lawnmower.
- The cutting system of a reel lawnmower keeps the blade in an almost self sharpened state. I brought mine to a guy on Saturday and he gave it back saying there wasn't any need to do anything other than adjust the blade closer and run it on my driveway or the road real quick before adjusting back out to my desired cutting height.
- Instant on. No fuel and/or charge time.
- Cost me $0 to operate.
- Helps me burn calories.
Cons
- It didn't cost me thousands of dollars so I lose OT Baller CE credits.
- More labor intensive thank other methods (minimally concerning on a lawn).
- Much smaller cutting area.
- Longer mowing time.
- Can't bag clippings (if you want to).

I have one that someone gave me I use occasionally. It's honestly not any worse than my push mower. Won't cut real thick grass though.
