quote:

SAN PEDRO CUTUD, Philippines (AP) — Screaming in pain, Filipino devotees had themselves nailed to wooden crosses to mimic the suffering of Jesus Christ on Good Friday in Asia's largest Roman Catholic nation.

Church leaders have spoken against the annual practice mixing Catholic devotion with folk belief, but it continues to draw big crowds, particularly in northern Pampanga province.

Painter Ruben Enaje, 54, was among half a dozen men whose hands and feet were rubbed with alcohol before locals dressed as Roman soldiers hammered sterilized nails into his flesh.

quote:

After they were lowered from the crosses, medical workers carried the devotees on a stretcher and made sure there were no complications from their injuries.

Good for them. A person could waste a life-time just sitting around waiting for stigmata. At least they're showing some initiative. Too bad they're still not getting into heaven though.

Christians there don't have to fight wars against abortionists, atheists, or communists so they have to find other ways to demonstrate the struggle

Is that really kids playing and watching? They do this every year on Good Friday, in this neck of the woods. I didn't think they actually used nails.

I ran into 3 different processions today in the CBD nola walking and blocking traffic carrying crosses. Read a couple signs about pro-life and what not .... bunch of people just blindly following them ironically walking through traffic.

There's not much else to do in the Philippines, unless you're a sailor.

Wait, they volunteered to do this, right? If they were forced then it's not funny at all.
