Longest time after an interview you have gotten a job offer?

I interviewed for a job in mid-February and along the way, I've been told I'm the leading candidate twice, and they have told me more recently I'm still in contention. It's frustrating as hell, particularly because my credentials could not possibly be a better fit for this job. I'm going out of my frickin' mind, I'd almost they'd rather just tell me no so I can move on. This job would be a relocation, which I really want to do. I'm positive they'll send me a passive "we chose another candidate email soon."

Everyone I talk to says this is pretty normal stuff from HR, can anyone give me hope?

Six weeks is a gap but it's far from record breaking or anything, especially if you interviewed when the job first opened.

Any talk of a second interview or anything?

I know it's not particularly long, just curious how long some people have gone. The poster who said it took 10 months was interesting.

No there's no second interview, I either get the job or not.

Well, personally, right around three months is my record.

Now, anecdotally, I've known people going for jobs with the federales and such that went over a year, though that clock started with a cleared application and not necessarily the first interview.

Good luck.

My first job out of grad school, the turnaround times were absurd. Had a phone interview in June, a face-to-face in August, offered in October and started in November.

I interviewed in May and got a job offer in August....was a job I really wanted too, but I had already accepted and started another job. Turned out for the best though, as I have stayed with that job for nearly 20 years now....

Now.I do some hiring for my company and I can tell you that a two month lag between interview and hiring is not unusual at all...honestly, you are probably not their first choice, but I surely wouldn't give up on it...

That sounds about right, this is right out of grad school for me too. The early turnaround times were lightning quick, I had an in person interview set up immediately after the phone interview, which was literally the week after I applied for the job. They did tell me I was the first candidate to interview and they "needed" to interview more candidates, which I totally understand and seems normal.

As for the compliment on my handle and good luck wishes

We interviewed several people, once, before the application period even closed. It was a new position and we kind of wanted to know if we'd set up the PA and the ad right to get the kind of person we wanted and all.

The final offer was two or three weeks after the job closed.

Personally, all my job offers have come within about two days of the interview.

Interviewed in early April, second interview in mid April, was told to expect an offer, got the offer in mid May, and started early June.

I applied for the job in November. I interviewed in January. Didn't get the job offer til June. Didn't start until august. But it was fedgov and it was during furloughs and sequestration. While the fedgov is slow, that's pretty atypical even for them.

I think you'll make a great Glory Hole attendant!

Seriously though I've had it be 2 months. And that was like 6 months after I applied. That is an extreme example but in my business (vaccine/pharmaceutical R&D) it can be quite slow.
