Attorneys in.... (Robert Durst's attorney question)

His attorney is licensed in Texas, but is now representing Durst in New Orleans on a state charge. He is not licensed in Louisiana, so how is he representing Durst there? His attorney is Dick DeGuerin from Houston.

We do with Texas. All you need is 5 years of practice and re-take the MPRE. My boss just did it.

I wonder if the attorney that submits the request for DeGuerin gets some money, or if lawyers just do that for each other all of the time.

Ever heard of "e pluribus unum" or "ad valorem"?
Guess not.

Texas attorneys who desire to appear in a limited capacity in Louisiana, but who do not wish to sit for the Bar Examination, may wish to seek permission to appear pro hac vice. Pro hac vice refers to a “lawyer who has not been admitted to practice in a particular jurisdiction, but who is admitted there temporarily for the purpose of conducting a particular case. Black’s Law Dictionary 1248 (8th ed. 2004). However, it must be noted that this is for temporary purposes – any out-of-state attorney seeking to appear on a frequent, or even occasional basis, may be best served by seeking permanent admission to the Louisiana Bar.

Under the pro hoc vice rules, he has to have a La. co-counsel. Wonder how he picks that guy? Could I be that guy?
