Home recording interfaces and DAWs recs

I used to dabble with some home recording years back with a PreSonus Firebox. I was looking to get back into this and I'm sure that a lot has changed since then. What are some good interfaces and DAWs that aren't too crazy expensive. It's mainly going to be for me to mess with song ideas. I don't need full blown ProTools or anything and my "studio" doubles as my home office, so I'm not expecting real studio quality recordings. Probably only need two inputs as I'll likely record my acoustic in stereo and overdub vocals on top.

Look at Amarra software and Korg recorders.

I use an M-audio interface and it was around $100

I've been using Mixcraft 6 and a Rockband adapter.
