Hi all! Recently bought a car in Louisiana and have temporary tags on it. However, in mid-May I am moving to Texas.

Do I have to register the vehicle in Louisiana or is there another way around it since I am moving so soon to Texas?

Checked the DMV website but could not find additional information regarding registration. Not sure if I should just go ahead and drive to Texas this week to register the vehicle and drive back, or if there's another way around this.

You have to leave said vehicle in Louisiana. You may not bring it with you.

You already have a temp tag in LA and will get a real plate here soon. I moved to Houston about 6 months ago and just paid the registration fees at tax assessor office in Harris County and it was very quick and easy. It ran me about 300 for new license and registration though.

Wife bought a vehicle in VA in 2009. She had to pay $1100 in registration fees/taxes when we move to Texas in 2013.

My truck is about 4 years old and they told me I already paid taxes in LA over 2 years ago so I didn't owe anything than new title fee. Guess I got lucky. I'm buying Bandit dad's 2013 king ranch in July. Might get screwed then ha

Taxes must have been similar.

This month Texas is going to the one sticker deal with registration and inspection on it. You have to get your truck inspected first and if it passes, you will be in their system and obtain a sheet of paper with the passed inspection information.

The first time you register your vehicle, you will have to go to the DMV with a copy of your insurance and maybe some other information (you can look that up) and there you will get your sticker.

After your initial registration in person, you will be able to renew your registration on line or by mail.
