I plan on hitting up three well-respected establishments this weekend: Creole Creamery, District Donuts, and Angela Brocato's.

What are some must-gets at each location?

Creole Creamery is the only one I care for on that list.

Gracious is worth a visit. Don't waste your time with Sucre.

What are some of your favorite flavors to get there?

I would skip District. Definitely go to Creole Cremery. RIP Apple Hubig Pie Ice Cream. Brocatos is good too.

Like others have added, I would also add Hansens and Gracious. The owner of Gracious used to work for Bayona and Sucre. I prefer Gracious over Sucre.

Why all the hate for District? Is Blue Dot better?

Strawberry ice (and I usually get gelato) and a cannoli

Italian cookies to go.

I never have cared for snowballs, even as a kid.

Now that's the kind of answer I was hoping for. My mom (raised in Metairie) has raved about their cannoli for years.

Bittersweet Confections is another good idea.

Everything at Brocato's is good.

Also stop in Swiss Confectionery

The smell alone is worth it. Grab some assorted cakes.

From the looks of their menu I am inclined to agree. Does any gelato stand apart from the rest?

The fruit flavors are always very tasty, esp the strawberry at this time of year. But my all time favorite is the pistachio (darker olivey green, made with pistachio paste) rather than the pale green/fluorescent pistachio (which is a combo of pistachio and almond flavors). I can never remember which is plain pistachio, and which is pistachio nut. But get the darker green version.

Also like the torroncino. Sold in slabs/slices, a cinnamon gelato thing. Damn tasty.
