Ever bass fish with live crawfish?

Boiling crawfish at the farm this weekend and am planning to do a little bass fishing that afternoon at our pond (about 4 acres). We have a pretty decent bass population and almost never get skunked. I was planning on trying to use some live crawfish for bait. Has anyone had any luck with this, and whats the best way to attach a hook to the crawfish?

I have , but limited to run outs from woods into a bayou. Start hook at end of meaty part of tail then come out right before the carapace.

My fear about putting the hook through the tail is that they wont be able to swim with a hook in their tail. How will they propel themselves? If it isnt moving, then it wont look to apetizing. Inwas almost thinking about tieing the hook to the back.

They don't need to move where I fish them. Tying or using a wacky O-ring should work fine.

I've put them on yo-yos and trotlines plenty of times. Catch all kinds of stuff. Bass, sacalait, catfish, turtles, eels, snakes, egrets, dogs, everything.

Often thought about this, but never done it. My idea was to use a couple black rubber bands to attached the hook to crawfish, either the head or the tail, whatever allows it to move semi-freely

I learned to fish sitting on a bayou bank with my dad. He would set out 6/7 rods. All with crawfish we caught in a dip net on the side of the road. Some live-some peeled tails. Softshells were the best of all.

i did the exact same thing, but with frogs we caught or shot with pellet guns. caught some giant choupique in those days.

I can't wait to try out my new savage gear crawfish when the spillway gets right

They are great to use on bedding bass, have produced some of the most violent strikes I've ever gotten.

Use a rubber band to secure the hook to the crawfish, and remove the claws. Works like a charm

Removing the claws was going to be my next question

No. A bass dont care about claws.

They do. I saw a study on it. The results were that < claws = > strikes

Used to tear up some huge bedding females with a plastic crawfish. I say go for it.
