How to guys think Allen affects the development of SJB? Allen helped develop Porter into a terrific cornerback and helped mold Jenkins early in his career. He also was DC for the Broncos during Chris Harris rookie year. I believe he will be able get the best out of SJB and make him into a starting corner.

Agreed. I really think we'll have some defensive players step up and make plays this year. I think some of our depth players will show up.

if he can't make SJB into a corner no one can

SJBs last hope would be Rex Ryan

Weren't those 3 considered good corners coming out of college? Not taking anything away from Allen, but how much did he actually have to develop them; where as, SJB was drafted as a pure project.

highly unlikely. It's much more likely that he's a bust that never sees significant action.

That's the key here. I think we may be passing judgment on SJB too soon. He needs a little time to develop. I've always said you need to give any rookie at least 3 years before declaring them a bust. I realize sometimes they need to come in a contribute right away, but some are brought in knowing they won't contribute at first. I believe this is the case with SJB

I think you're overrating Dennis Allen.

No he's not, there's a reason why Allen moved up through the coaching ranks as fast as he did. He's a great coach that can pull the best out of players. Yes being the top dog proved too much for him, but as a position coach he's always shined.

Didn't we have good corners coming out of college that did jackshite after Allen left?

Don't underestimate the effect the signing Brandon Browner can have on SJB. It takes a different style to be a tall corner in the NFL. Browner has figured out how to make it work & can help pass that knowledge on to Baptiste.

Harris was UDFA
Jenkins was a converted safety
Porter showed promise his first year before the injury vs the Vikes, but I think Allen put him over the edge.

He was a corner when Allen was here ad was converted to a safety the year he left.

For some reason I was thinking about Hayden in Oak who was a 1st round pick by Allen

Not disputing this, I think Allen was a large part of Porter blossoming into a good QB, but he was highly scouted (especially be this team) and was drafted when Allen was the secondary coach.
I just wonder if Allen is the type of coach that can take a goo deployer and make him great, or can he take someone that is a project and make him a god/great player. I think SJB will be a test, but at the same time I wouldn't want SJB to define his ability to develop.

2010 was Jenkins best year, first year at safety and last year Allen was here.

Give up on him. The fact he couldn't get on the field, and scrubs were starting, speaks volumes. Looks like another whiff.
