Thinking about making the switch from AT&T to T-Mobile.

How is the service?

Great in these three cities, shitty between them.

ETA: I only get Edge between WBR and Lafayette. I haven't been past lafayette on 10 since late '13, but it was edge between there and Lake charles, but good until Houston. Between BR and NOLA I normally bounce between HSPA+, LTE and Edge.

Tmobile is pretty strong in the cities. They've been upgrading their network and I haven't had many problems in between.

I'm currently on ATT but thinking about making the switch soon. TMobile just bought a bunch of 700mhz band 12 spectrum from Baton Rouge to Houston. This will bolster their rural coverage as the signal travels farther. So their lte coverage is about to take a huge leap forward in that area... That said you need to get a phone capable of band 12. The iPhone 6 is not one of these devices. I'm looking at the Galaxy S6 just for this reason.

I've been with AT&T since the original iPhone came out and I had to drop Sprint to get it. I decided to give T-Mobile a try early last year when they announced their early termination buyout scheme. I live in Old Metairie, and I was only getting like 1 bar on LTE, and my speed tests were extremely slow. Occasionally it would drop down to 3G. My AT&T iPhone 5 at the time was giving me full bars.

So I returned the iPhone 5S to T-Mobile.

My wife says someone in her office downtown just got rid of T-Mobile because of the lack of building penetration

Looks like I'm stuck with att

They are going to have some building penetration issues in some areas. Luckily for me, the two most common places I go without good penetration by them are work and home. I just hook up to wifi and I can call and text through wifi.

In NOLA and in Lafayette the signal is not as good as ATT but if you have wifi a lot (which I do) it's not a big deal at all. The $100 a month I am saving is well worth the slight inconvenience occasionally.

This.. I currently have T Mobile. Was in hobby lobby on O'neal last weekend.. Full 4g lte when you are out side the building, but once I walked in, ZERO Signal, nothing.

Building Penetration is absolutely horrible with T-Mobile.

What kind of building and how close are you to a window? Around LSU's campus I normally get pretty good reception, even in Middleton (except for the elevators).

It is a metal/warehouse type building with no windows, but I really think it is crappy to go from full signal, to nothing. Happens at other places too, like a walmart, or even my gf's house (sherwood/old hammond area). Drops from 4G lte, to 2 bars of 4G.

I can second this, No Signal at all in Hobby Lobby on O'Neal. Its a minor inconvenience to not be able to text while shopping but nice to put the phone away for a bit and be in public.

Yeah, but when you are trying to send a picture of an item to someone to see if they would like to purchase, you have to walk outside to send it.

She's on the top floor of a downtown houston skyrise. Not sure how close she is to the window.

But if the wife doesn't want to switch, I won't have much say in the matter. I even bribed her with shoes

It sounds like they bought lower frequency towers to help fix this issue, but the iphone 6+ for tmobile isn't capable of picking up those frequencies.

12 years ago I couldn't get signal on the Amite River Diversion Canal on my T-Mobile. Cost me a few pieces of ace. Meanwhile, bros right beside me on AT&T Wireless and Cingular were able to contact their BC's.

Made for a few sad summers on the River...
