You need to change your name to The Grim Reaper.

You love starting threads about economies crashing and shite shutting down.

It's Jindal's fault. Everyone knew this would happen by closing EKL as fast as he did.

That people go to the ER for ailments, such as a headache, and don't pay their bills?

Edit: I saw, your edit. Good point.

Exactly. Hate on the "poor people" ERs all you want....but when really bad stuff happens to you....that's exactly where you want to go. The places that are pros at saving people's lives during very critical trauma situations.

You want to know what ERs to go to? Ask any cop you know where they want to be brought to if they are shot while on duty.

Solid points made in that article. I bet many don't really care cause they think it won't affect them. Will be interesting to see the fallout from the closure in the upcoming months.

I hope all the staff at Mid City ER was able to find another job. Still sucks though, I bet there were people there that had worked there several, several years. You grow very close to your coworkers at places like that. Working so many long hours together and dealing with intense situations together...you form a bond with them. Those last few shifts there had to be very sad for them.

There is a study about the increase in mortality if you live or work near an ER that shuts down.
Im doing my last shift at Midcity this evening. I was the last Charity ER Resident to rotate at the General in the 90s (Before the EKL Residency) I was lucky enough to get a job at The General 6 years ago. It's a great ER and I'm going to miss it.
And yeah a lot of people used it for a clinic(Especially after your boy, Bobby, shut down the Earl) but we took care of a lot of trauma and a lot of really sick people. And many Damn Good ER Physicians did some training there.

Well I hope your last shift goes well

Just sucks they are doing that to yall though. Considering I went to their nursing school and know what awesome staff they have there at that hospital....I will always have some interest in BRG.

So how does that work? Yall stop accepting patients through the door at 7 am? Or sooner?

7am. They are locking the doors. I asked what would happen if someone got hit by a car on Peachtree and they said call 911

What will happen to the ER at mid city now? Will it be converted into something else or will they leave it as is in the chance the state changes their mind about funding?

You're definitely right.

And I certainly know no details of the financials of this hospital, but it's probably a safe bet to assume with this, or any hospital, a lot of those profits get eaten up or a lot of those losses can be attributed to the extreme volume of self-pay patientds coming in for non-emergent issues.

No it's closed for good. They aren't going through all that again ( laying off hundreds of people etc. ) to be at the funding whims and mercy of president Jindal.

The Hospital remains open but the ER's gone.
