Walter Footballs (Charlie Cambell's) Latest Mock

March 30th

(rd1)13: Alvin Dupree, DE, Kentucky
(rd1)31: Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State
(rd2)44: Maxx Williams, TE, Minnesota
(rd3)75: Josue Matias, G, Florida State
(rd3)78: Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma
(rd5)148: Lorenzo Doss, CB, Tulane
(rd5)154: Sean Mannion, QB, Oregon State

I'm posting this only because I absolutely would love it if this happened like this. I also think it is very possible for it to fall this way.

Now couple things I didn't like was Saints passing on La'el Collins in the first for Dupree. It makes sense though considering how the Payton Office has drafted linemen in years past. Waiting until middle rounds instead of spending a first. Also had Danielle Hunter falling to the bottom of the fifth. I think he is good value there, but is Hunter a fit for a 3-4 end or would he have to convert to a 3-4 OLB. Either way I think its a better pick-up than a 5th round project QB

I also could see DGB falling into third for off the field issues. I know it's been suggested we take him in second or even the first as some have said. Not sure if you take a risk on him that early. I get his talent and you could have another Randy Moss/Dez Bryant situation with him. Do you take a risk that early considering how often we have whiffed in the first couple rounds of the draft under this Front Office.

Either way solid picks this way if it falls out.

Would fap if this was our draft even though I'm not as high on Dupree as others. But would be a very solid draft over all

I'm not high on him either honestly. It was the rest of the draft I really liked

Macc williams pick makes no sense because thats too early to take a tight end. Josh hill will be our starting tight end entering the season. We have two 5th round picks to be used to find a tight end. We have to go defense or wide receiver round two.

For some reason, I dont see him dropping this far. Teams will be looking for the next Kelvin Benjamin, like the Bears.

STRENGTHS
Primarily used as move tight end. Straight-line wheels to beat linebackers and safeties. Accelerates to top speed quickly on crossers and speed outs. Speed to chew up cushion and open a throwing window over the top. Will threaten seam and dominated defenders on wheel routes. Red-zone winner. Can do damage after the catch and shows playmaking aptitude with tight end screens. Extends and goes all out for the catch. Got a foot inbounds on three circus catches. Eighty-two percent of his catches were for either a first down or touchdown. Not easily redirected out of release. Honest effort to stay engaged when base blocking.
WEAKNESSES
Body is a little soft and could use additional weight work to handle NFL hits. Runs upright, rounded routes that lack salesmanship and shake. Leans into breaks, tipping his hand and bringing tighter coverage. Hip tightness stymies ability to sink and cut crisply. Needs to do better job over deep middle of using frame to shield throw from safeties. Won't generate push as an in-line blocker and has limited feel and instincts as a move blocker. Will need route work to create separation on the next level.
NFL COMPARISON
Jeremy Shockey
BOTTOM LINE
Pass-catching, move tight end with straight-line play speed and an ability to stretch defenses deep. Williams comes from NFL bloodlines and has the self confidence often found in a former player's son, but he needs to improve his route running in order to become a more complete receiving threat. Williams led all college tight ends with 9 explosive catches (25-plus yards) in 2014 and should be an early target for teams looking for pass-catching weapons.

He compares to a certain tight end that was a huge part in getting us a ring. So regardless of what common sense tells you, dude man handled people in college and then has been backing it up at college and pro days. Him and Hill would create disgusting mismatches for a defense.

1) I have questions about Dupree. If we take him, I hope he isn't an athlete that isn't a football player. (ie. Dion Jordan, Martez Wilson, etc.)
2) I don't know if DGB falls that far. He's got baggage, but someone will likely pick him up earlier than that.
3) Mannion is kind of ehh as a QB prospect. And I think that's a little early to go QB.

All that being said, I'd be really happy with that draft. Mostly because McKinney and DGB are great value picks, Dupree has a bunch of potential and Doss seems like a solid 5th rounder. We also get a Guard, although I don't know that much about Matias.

Dupree over Collins and Gregory? I hope not.

I also don't want to use our 2nd rounder on a TE, even if we traded away the best in the game.

DGB in round 3 would be boss tho.

I wouldn't mind him in Second round. You get the consensus top ranked Tight end coming out this year in the second.

Last ten years TE first picked

Eric Ebron 10
Tyler Eifert 21
Coby Fleener 34
Kyle Rudolf 43
Jermaine Greshom 21
Brandon Pettigrew 20
Dustin Keller 30
Greg Olsen 30
Vernon Davis 6
Heath Miller 30

Average Draft position 24th overall.

But Ebron and Vernon Davis are outliers and may skew the numbers a bit. So for the sake of argument If I go with the second TE taken (2006 Mercades Lewis 28th, 2014 Austin Seferian-Jenkins 38th)

your average draft position drops to 29th overall. With no TE being drafted as late as the Saints pick (44th overall) in the last ten years. I think taking him there is good value.

F.O. may be sold on Josh Hill as the starter, but taking Williams in the second wouldn't shock me and I wouldn't dislike it.

I concur...but he's going late 1st/early 2nd round to a team that wants to take a chance on a high ceiling. Hopefully it's not the Saints.

I'm not sure here. Reasoning is this, receivers I remember falling to the late first because of off the field issues were Dez Bryant, and Randy Moss.

Now the difference those guys put up huge numbers in college and would have been top ten picks but still fell for off the field reasons. I think DGB's ceiling is late first without the off the field issues. He only played two seasons and had flashes, but wasn't near as consistent as the other two mentioned.

I don't think he will be there in third either but bottom of the second is a very real possibility

That's an incredible draft. I don't see DGB going that low, but I guess it's possible with all his baggage. This draft would be sick, though. Would certainly change our team.
