You can tell an irregular rhythm just be feeling the pulse. But I'd have definitely gotten an EKG.

Prayers sent!!! That has to be the scariest thing. I couldn't imagine and certainly will say a prayer that all goes well...
I have an irregular heartbeat.
PAT OR PSVT
Been that way since I was 5. I'm close to 40 now.
I played sports in high school and continue to run at least 2 times a week 5 miles on average.
I do stay away from caffeine
I'm not sure that will make you feel any better.
Prayers sent.
Eta: I also took LANOXIN from age 5 to 18.

chest was hurting and felt like his heart was beating fast. She brought him to primary care dr, and he said he had an irregular heartbeat.
Could be anxiety, or could be something else. I thought mine was just anxiety, but it ended up being SVT. Rather benign, but can be scary if you don't know what it is and it hits.

My first thought was anxiety. But I'm no doctor..
Exact same thing happened to me last year. Scared the crap out of me. Thought something was serously wrong. EKG and x-ray both came back fine.
If it's not anxiety it may just something that is bruised around the heart. Probably from wrestling. That was another possiblity for my symptoms.

Nurse came in and took his viatls, then another nurse came in and did the ekg. The dr came in and listened to his heart and asked a pot of questions (diet, activities, drink, drugs, suplements, stress) Seemed to keep going back to if he was having any problems or stress. He has to wear a heart monitor for a month, then go back to the cardiologist in two months. Dr said he can go back to regular activities, said he can do whatever he wants also g as it doesn't break the monitor..

Mitral valve prolapse results in reduced heart pumping function- oxygen circulation. Cardiomyopathy. The result is shortness of breath, this doesn't sound like that.. If they put him on a Holter monitor they didn't find anything. They will use it to see if he has any episodes in the coming weeks. The biggest thing cardiologist look at in young athletes is a wide QRS complex in the EKG. This is what a lot of young athletes die of suddenly from ventricle tachycardia when undiagnosed. I think they would've noticed this at any time that EKG was done, it's not something that comes and goes. Good point about rustlers cutting weight and electrolytes.
