Happy Birthday Coach Johnny Jones

John Henry "Johnny" Jones Jr turns 54 today so what better day to appreciate a man who has given more to LSU than most anyone else can say.

Johnny "The Bullet" Jones started his LSU career as a player. He was a 4 year Tiger who played for LSU's 1981 Final Four team under Coach Dale Brown. He came to LSU as a scoring PG but developed the ability to get his teammates the ball at LSU.

After his playing career was finished, he rejoined the LSU Tigers and Coach Brown as an assistant where he helped LSU continue the greatest stretch of LSU Basketball in their history. He stayed with LSU from 1984 until 1997 as an assistant coach.

After a stint as head coach at Memphis (interim) and North Texas, Coach Jones came back to his Alma Mater and has started with a bang. His current record is 61-37 making him the winningest three year coach in LSU history. His .622 winning percentage is the highest of any LSU coach since before WW2. He is also bringing in what may end up being the greatest recruiting class in LSU history this coming year.

Coach Jones has given 21 years of his career to LSU as a player, assistant, and head coach. He truly bleeds purple and gold and has become a leader of good players and a developer of great men.
