Yes with respect to price, but they will never power an 18 wheeler to haul goods across the country with an electric motor.

Have more faith in science. It can be done now. Just not cost efficient yet. Give it time.

you know if something revolutionary happens, big oil will do everything in their power to halt its growth until they can find a way to own it and make money from it.

I really feel this happens in many fields from Oil and newer fuels to pharmaceutical companies halting research on something that could be life changing.

frick the oil companies.

Nearly everything in your life is dependent on petroleum, from the power to cool your home, to fuel in your car, to the plastics that everything is packaged in and/or built from. Without petroleum we'd have a considerably lower quality of life.

I also don't get the bashing of Texas' economy. Isn't this America? Why are we rooting for our brothers to fail?

Hard to feel sorry for oil/gas companies making 20-25 billion profit a quarter when they were fricking us with $3.75 a gallon gas

how exactly were they fricking you? do you feel the same way about other commodities that fluctuate in price? How do you feel about beef or milk, corn or soybeans, hell even orange juice? they all fluctuate in price. Yet I bet you don't feel like you're getting screwed by those who produce them.

Exxon Mobil reported a quarterly profit of nearly $16 billion Thursday -- the highest ever for a U.S. corporation.

This is great news! At least twenty percent of that went to tax, also millions of pensions and retirement accounts benifit from such a strong prosperous company

Evil Big Oil has done the opposite. They have greatly increased production which has created this glut that has lowered the price of the very commodity that they produce. They are also heavily invested in alternative energy sources.

Whats funny is he didn't quote is that almost half of that was due to an asset sale. Exxon's profits actually down 21% from last year.

so what if they do? Neither pharma nor oil companies are in this for public service. I'm sure you (or your boss) would/will do what you can to protect your market share. Why can't pharma and oil do the same?

They also made a ton from tax credits and selling off operations to a foreign country....

But this quarter's massive number includes $7.5 billion from "divestments and tax-related items," partly from the sale of refining and chemical operations in Japan.

Here are some interesting facts from 2011 I found, what would be more troubling to me, then profit of a company, is the waste gov't has done with all these taxes paid

quote:

In 2011, ExxonMobil had tax expenses in the United States of more than $1 billion a month – every monthOur total 2011 U.S. tax expenses were $12.3 billion, which included:$3.6 billion in U.S. income taxes$5.6 billion in sales-based taxes$3.1 billion in other taxes, such as property and excise taxes. In 2011, our $12.3 billion in tax expenses in the United States exceeded our $9.6 billion of earnings in the United States.Over the past five years, ExxonMobil’s total U.S. tax expense was $57 billion, which is $18 billion more than the company earned in the United States during the same period.

A bunch of oil field company accountants just got laid off too.

Sad, but they need to get rid of their Camry and just use public transportation and live within their means anyway. Being an accountant has its ups and down.

Sooo, you dont think these companies has any affect on this "market" you're speaking about?? Im totally sure there is no manipulation going on.

Oh, they do, alright. Their overproduction is causing the price of oil to tank. They could all stop producing to drive the price of oil up, but then they wouldn't make money and go bankrupt. See how it works?

While there is concern amongst the industry, where is the whining? Is the industry whining and crying for a bailout like the financial, airline and auto industries?

No one in the industry will tell you that oil prices "should" be hire. Mainly just worried about losing their jobs or getting less work.

Because judging by Jim Rockford's posts, his girlfriend was boning either someone from TX or someone in the oil & gas industry behind his back.
