Pitino had a 17-year head start on Izzo. Even if you take out his NBA jobs, he's still ahead by about a decade. Even take out his Boston University stint and he has a head start.
What? This makes zero sense. Pitino has coached 7 more seasons at 27 seasons total, with 2 coming at providence and 5 coming at Boston. Izzo has 20 seasons with all 20 being at MSU. So they have had almost the exact same amount of time

Wouldn't the sweet 16 numbers be equal to the elite 8 for the coaches? That's literally the only way they can even sniff the elite 8

I did it by rounds they lost in. So yes for total sweet 16s you would add all those numbers together

So if I can't include Providence, you have to take out one of Pitino's Final Fours.

And 7 more seasons is A HELL of a head start.

And the Michigan State team he inherited had reached two Sweet Sixteens since Magic left--a 17 year stretch.

I don't understand how the coach with 2 national titles at two seperate schools, and final fours at three seperate schools is below anyone

Izzo is better than them all IMO.

K and Pitino are more accomplished though.

All of these coaches are great...but
You don't understand how he's below the guy with a bunch of gold medals, 1000 wins, 4 national titles, etc.?

Duke was pretty good a basketball before Coach K, but Coach K made Duke into DUKE.

K is the probably the best combo of recruit and motivator and X and O guy out there.

Pitino, imo, has slipped from 2 to 3 (or 2a to 2b) because he's cooled off on recruiting a little.

I didnt notice Coach K. Absolutely behind him. But I dont see how someone can put Izzo ahead. Maybe even, maybe. But certainly not ahead

Don't forget Pitino banged some chick in an Italian restaurant on the table and then paid for her abortion and then had to call the cops when she tried to blackmail him.

Is Izzo really better than pitino guys? Are we being prisoners of the moment?

No. We're being prisoners of watching Michigan State always over achieving in the tourney year after year

So if they are over achieving every year, maybe he should get better players

How do you overachieve if you do it year after year? How do overachieve if you consistently beat teams to get that far?

It's not overachieving. Basketball is talent, play, and coaching.
