Just to give people an idea of what we need and the way I think it should go if everything works out perfect(which it probably won't)

QB - No draft pick needed this year

RB - Mark Ingram
- CJ Spiller
- Khiry Robinson
- 6th round or UDFA

WR - Marques Colston
- Brandin Cooks
- 3rd round
- Toon, Saunders, Coleman, Jones

TE - Josh Hill
- Ben Watson
- 5th round

OL - Terron Armstead
- 1st round
- Max Unger
- Jahri Evans
- Zach Strief

Backup C/OG - Tim Lelito
Backup OG - Senio Kelemete
Backup OT - 7th round

DL - Akiem Hicks/2nd round
- John Jenkins/Broderick Bunkley/5th round
- Cameron Jordan/Glenn Foster

LB - Junior Galette/Kasmin Edeballi/6th round
- David Hawthorne/Dannell Ellerbe
- 1st round
- Parys Haralson/Ronald Powell

CB - Keenan Lewis
- Brandon Browner
- 3rd round
-Dixon, SJB, Breaux, Frederick

S - No draft pick needed this year

1st - Starting Guard
1st - Starting ILB
2nd - EDGE guy
3rd - #3 Wide Receiver
3rd - #3 Cornerback
5th - #3 Tight End
5th - Defensive Tackle
6th - #4 Running Back or another EDGE guy
7th - Backup Offensive Tackle

I also wouldn't mind drafting another Offensive Guard in the 5th or 6th round instead of dlineman or running back. Jahri is almost done...if he isn't already.

I agree with you for the most part. But if there is a QB that Payton is high on that falls to the 5th don't be surprised if he takes him to learn under Brees trying to make a smooth transition in a few years

If Cooper is somehow still there at #13, I want to take him. If we went with a lineman and drafted a LB like Bernardrick McKinney at #31, then I would look to draft a WR like Sammie Coates if he is there in the 3rd.

That makes sense, but I don't see that happening. Let's be realistic: what are the odds against finding the heir apparent to Brees in the 5th round? Do you think Payton is willing to give up a spot on the roster for a 3rd QB?

If he's put on the Practice Squad and sits there without another team picking him off, he's not going to be good enough to eventually take Brees' place.

I'm saying Griffin isn't the answer, and in the right situation a Petty or Grayson, or Sean Mannion might be the answer for him. He already said in interviews that he won't discount taking a QB this year. But overall you are correct. This year needs to be defense, defense, more defense, interior o-line and a 3rd option at receiver unless Coleman or Jones or possibly Saunders blows up.

Guess the position per round? Worthless IMO.

It's all relative to value.

Ex: Arik Armstead is a stretch pick at #13 but a good value pick at #31

Not necessarily. It's obviously not going to go just like this, but it gives you a good idea of how much we need someone. I don't even have Armstead on our board(as in he's not a target). Stephone Anthony at 31 is a reach in general, but not for us considering we need him and you can't take the chance and wait until 44(He might be gone). It is all relative to value, but this gives you an idea of what the plan should be.

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but the draft is an inexact science and the objective is to get what you need at the best value. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Well, actually the wrong way to do it is to have shitty scouts like the Browns do. If you can't identify talent...it doesn't matter where you take them.

I'm guessing the vast majority of fans would agree with this.

The perfect scenario is for the team to trade back and gather extra picks for next year in order to move as high as they have to to get Connor Cook or Christian Hackenberg.

If Brees isn't extended next year; I doubt they keep him and his $27.4M cap hit and that means they'll be looking for immediate help.

Nobody really knows what they're going to do...they may not know themselves.

I think you did a good breakdown here.

The only one is I really dont think we even draft a TE this year. I know people have it in their head because we traded Jimmy, but Hill and Watson's got this. And there's no way we would keep 3 TEs on the roster.JMHO

I agree. Shane Ray has the chance to be a great pass rusher, but you can't use pick 13 on a guy that just rushes the passer. I'm not even sure that I would take him at 31. You can get plenty one dimentional pass rushers later in the draft. Or in Gallett's case...a UDFA.

That would be a terrible pick. I'm convinced that they're going big body on #13 (Scherff or Collins on the OL or Shelton on DL). The 31st pick is wide open (just hoping they don't waste it on a CB).

!3th pick to high for a guard but #31st about right.payton stated the need to draft two D-lineman one a 6-4/300 type the other a 6-4/280 type.i would use the 13th on a D-lineman the 31st on a TE the 44th on another D-lineman.The 75th on a backup left tackle.then with 78th pick a guard/center type.with the 148th an edge olb/de tweener. The 154th on a Cb.The 187th on a WR.With the last pick a scat back like sproles body type for pick 230th.If we trade back which i hpe for then with a trade 10th draft pick a QB as with a weak Qb class to get a good 4th arm to back up the tulane qb esp if he beats out Mc Cown.

So, Fowler, Williams, Beasely, Ray, Gregory, Scherff, Shelton, Dupree, and La'el Collins are all gone, you are saying there is no way they take Amari Cooper at 13?

ETA: What if Trae Waynes falls to 31 for some strange reason....no go at there?

Not to mention, the 1st rounders are penciled in as starters? What if they aren't?
