Lol at saying this is a great movie, especially since Willie Robertson was in it.....it's a decent movie that Christians will overrate and love, it is what it is. And yes, the movie was filmed at LSU....and the scene with Willie and Kory was at Claiborne Christian School in West Monroe.

I saw it on Netflix last night. I thought about watching it, but it seemed from the description that it would paint Christians as being persecuted. I didn't feel like watching that kind of crap, so I watched another movie instead that wound up being pretty crappy called Beyond.

I loved the Mumford & Sons, Phillip Phillips-style intro song... this world is a demon-infested fricked up place but with help we can prosper and be happy. Good message.

Wish that more cultures and subcultures would put out their own films like this. Makes for more interesting choices at the theaters.

Sounds like a great movie for a drinking game. Drink any time you see something obviously LSU. Drink any time a character says something that would sound at home coming out of Ann Coulter's mouth. Stuff like that.

I'm just thrilled it's on Netflix.
As for the movie, Hadleigh University is such a liberal place that only one brave student in that giant philosophy class refused to sign that a-hole professor's statement. It's high time a movie displayed such narrative honesty; I haven't seen such realism since the night before when I watched "Whiplash".

A lot more has happened in the first twenty minutes than in all of "Boyhood", too. We have a central character to care about, a few nasty villains, and an actual plot. I've been watching in ten minute spurts with half hour breaks... not because it's overwhelming but because it's meant to be savored.

If I went out and got hit by a car, and were to die, I could view this movie as giving me a final chance at some understanding, through a clear message. Birdman, on the other hand, gave me a red arse.

It's so bad it's great and it is such a warped and cliched view of religious kooks.
Radisson(sp?) isn't an athiest because of his intellectual background. No, he is a resentful a-hole that turned his back on God because his Christian mother died of cancer. He also openly humiliates his Christian girlfriend in front of other God-hating liberal intellectuals.
Plus, there is the Muslim girl who deeply desires to be Christian but her evil Muslim father beats her and disowns after he finds her listening to a Bible passage. It's actually a very insulting plot line. But, hey, it's ok because she has Christ in her life.
Ultimately, Ingmar Bergman and Robert Bresson both did far better jobs dissecting faith and the existence of God.

This is about what I expected based off of the description that I read. It's condescending and an unintelligent, simplistic way to explain a subject that should be complex, interesting, and powerful.

I've seen the Seventh Seal by Berman which was fantastic. I haven't really heard of Bresson. Is there anything in particular that you would recommend from either for future viewing?

Diary of a Country Priest. It's about a young priest that gets assigned to his first parish where he struggles with his faith. It is 100000000000000x more intelligent about it's dissection of faith than God's Not Dead.
Be warned though, Bresson is the most minimalist of all minimalist directors. His films are extremely stripped-down and introspective.
Fun fact: The film was also a core inspiration for Taxi Driver with regards to a lonely character dealing with an inner struggle.

The acting was inspired. As for the writing, well... that was inspired, too. It was all inspired. I could have chosen to be offended by the a-hole professor pretending to speak for all people of my particular persuasion but because it was so well-intentioned (and inspired) I preferred to embrace it.
And Hadleigh University looked beautiful. I'm grateful for that.
