Looking for advice on organizing all of my media in one place, and streaming it to my tv.

I'm just trying to find the easiest hookup with the least amount of gear. Price isn't really an issue.
Ideally id like some sort of hard drive that I can connect to wirelessly and download & transfer all of my media to it. And from that drive be able to stream it to the TV. I have around 4tb of media as is, and will obviously be adding more to it. I have too many external hard drives right now and just want one system for all media, and then be able to somehow stream all of that media to my tv. Which isn't a smart tv btw. So I'm guessing id probably have to use a western digital my tv or something similar.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. And I hope this makes sense.

The silent nas series hs-251.
looks perfect, but I'm sort of confused
- Does this device have storage built in and how much?
- Would I be able to wirelessly download files from the Internet through my computer and save it to the unit?

Ok, then what do I use to store all of my media on for that media hub player?

Just build a home theater computer with some massive hard drives using your TV as the monitor for the computer. Include a decent surround sound system and your are all set. Obviously the computer should have high speed internet access and a local area network including other computers in your home. The other computers in your home will then be able to access any of the media on the home theater PC.

This is your essential end goal..Do you want a PC or a small appliance like the Qnap..?
You will buy the same drives that you would for a PC, you just won't install Windows..That is essentially the difference

Plex, chromecast, and NAS.

I would say Roku over chromecast..Just my personal opinion based on ease of use (remote versus phone, etc.)

That's just my setup. I like to be able to access and swipe through my media via a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop interface, and send it to Chromecast using any one of those devices with two mouse clicks/taps at any given time.

We use the Roku on a side tv, and XBone on the main..I find it easier to just use the roku remote rather than fishing for a phone, tablet, etc.

Not sure what I'm going to do but thanks for the input.

ok so with chrome cast are you basically just streaming things on your phone and it shows up on the tv?
I dont want that. I basically just want something for netflix and watch espn so I can watch lsu baseball. I would rather a remote and I see apple tv is down to about $60 at best buy. What would yall recommend?

I will look into it. As long as I can watch the tigers on the big screen I am happy.

I got a Apple TV for espn and airplay. Mac mini with rabbit ears antenna and eyetv to record shows when we are working. I also downloaded xbmc on the mac mini and have all the movies and shows on it. We have a amazon fire tv with xbmc on it and rabbit ears antenna in the bedrooms.

If you're asking whether the chromecast is fully reliant on your phone, it depends on the streaming source. Chromecast has a list of services/apps it's compatible with (for example, Netflix and Watchespn). Use your phone to browse/search netflix to select what you want to watch, then click the cast icon. Once it's on Chromecast, it's the chromecast itself accessing the internet and streaming the video. Meaning, you are free to close the netflix app on your phone, turn the phone off, leave the house with your phone, etc., and the Chromecast will keep streaming. The same thing applies to Plex. I can access my local media (like torrent downloads) via plex on my phone, cast it to Chromecast, and then turn off the phone/leave the house/close plex, as long as the plex content (on your NAS/PC/whatever) is still accessible by the network. But in order to again take control of your media, you have to open the app again (and be at home on your network again). Other apps, such as popcorntime, are fully reliant on my device being on and connected to the network, since it's designed to be a straight local-to-chromecast stream.
It's not the ideal setup for everyone, and there are some key services that aren't supported (like Amazon Instant), but I personally love the interface of my phone or PC to search and browse media vs. using a remote, which can be tedious depending on what you're doing. But I have a house full of devices that can work with the chromecast (PCs, tablets, and phones), so I have no reason to add another regular remote to the mix.

plex is the easiest thing to use.
I believe you can run plex directly off approved select nas devices. Otherwise, just load it on a computer and have a large disc drive.
Plex allows you to move this media around. It can go to cell phones, tablets, or to tvs. If the tv is a smart tv and has plex, then you are set.
However, Roku, amazon fire tv/stick, and chromecast are all ways to get plex on your tv.

i use Plex for my media files, then the Matricom GBox Q can play these files back with ease.
From this device, I can also use WatchESPN, HBOGO, and pretty much anyother Android app.
Oh, and pull in pretty much any movie (any genre), TV show or music stream. I purchased this to use for demo of some 4K video (Yes, it plays back 4K) but it is, shall we say... Highly versatile.

I have a raspberry pi with xbmc for my media server set up. I love it.
