Friend made an argument that Kentucky is the "greatest team of all time" I personally think he is crazy.

I have a few teams that could also make the claim as the best team ever.

UCLA- 1968-`69
Coach- John Wooden
Record- 29-1
Won NCAA Tourney
Best player- Lew Alcindor aka Kareem Abdul Jabbar(number 1 draft pic)

Florida- 2006-07
Coach- Billy Donovan
Record- 35-5
Won NCAA Tourney
Best player- Corey Brewer, Al Horford, Joakim Noah(All top 10 draft pics)

Kentucky-2011-12
Coach- John Calipari
Record- 38-2
Won NCAA Tourney
Best player- Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones, Marquis Teauge( All top 18 draft pics including number 1 and 2 overall)

Do you think any of the teams listed above or another other team is better than this years Kentucky team?

UNLV Running Rebels were bad arse. The team that lost to Duke in the Final Four was better than the Natty Champ team the year before.

College Basketball is the most watered down sport at the current time too...

How do you leave off the 89-90 or 90-91 UNLV teams. Those were veteran groups with outstanding talent. What about Phi Slamma Jamma (1983 Houston)? Those were outstanding teams in an era where the quality of play in college basketball was much, MUCH better. Those teams would smash this year's UK squad.

That shouldn't take away from how good UK is this year, but this is a watered down product they are running through

UNLV could run with anyone and they could play physical. They were a dominant force of nature and the team that beat Duke by 30 in the title game could have beaten any college team ever assembled.

What? Don't open the threads....

They're close to going undefeated and you're complaining about threads about them? Take a nap.

One of the best. You can't say anyone is THE best of all time because they will never play against each other. Teams from different era's had different type of athletes, skill sets, etc.

The funny thing is the team that lost to Duke (by 2) the next season was even better. They would embarrass every college team from this season, including Kentucky

Not sure embarrass is the right word. This year's KY team could play with anyone.

In the one-and-done era, maybe. But all time? No way. UCLA win 88 games in a row from '71 to '74. UNLV and Duke in the early '90s, Florida '06-'07, Phi Slamma Jamma, UNC in the '80s with Jordan, Worthy...

keep in mind that UNLV team were upper classmen, Jrs and Srs. In 1990 Duke was still young, Laettner was a Soph and Hurley a freshman and lost by 30.

Not with UNLV... They had way to much talent for this young team from UK....

I am not saying that they would beat them 4 out of 5 times but this years team could hang with them and would win at least a game or two of 5.

ETA: All I said originally was that they would not be embarrassed by anyone.

I agree with that UNLV team

Some of y'all are just too young to remember them. I also think there were better skilled players in college back then b/c kids played college ball longer.

I could agree with that. I think that is one of the main reasons you see upsets in the dance. A small school with jr's and sr's beats a powerhouse made up of fr and soph every once in a while. I still think KY playing their best ball would be a good matchup with whoever.

Even with UK playing as good as they did last night... 1990 UNLV would still have beaten them pretty easy... It would have been MEN against boys.......

22 yr olds vs 18-19 y/olds. Put 1990 Vegas in a time machine and they crusie through this years fields

Though if LSU could beat UNLV) with Shaq and CJ (Shaq was only 17 at that point) then its possible this UK beat could beat them once, but I'm not sure any college team ever would have beaten Vegas the way they played vs Duke in the Final.
