I drove down here today and not being from Baton Rouge, I was wondering if this area is crime-ridden and run down or just run down. I can't believe this area has never seen any kind of gentrification given the fact that there are so many houses (as opposed to apartments/condos) and its proximity to LSU.

Joe and Henry's Chicken Shack used to be there. The popcorn shrimp was legit.

That area has gotten better but you still wouldn't want to be there after dark.

I have been avoiding Nicholson Drive to downtown in my morning commute. I've been driving down Thomas H Delpit which turns into East St. Very Nice! New pavement. Some very nice, well-kept projects at one point. Some historical homes in the mix.

It's always been an poor area because it is low ground. Before it was developed that entire area was a plantation.
