Looking at a 2003 Skeeter ZX22bay. Yamaha 200 vmax. Hours unknown but motor started right up and he said he has never had problems and it has had routine maintenece. Boat is pretty clean. He wants just under $14k. Got the funds and house on the water. Just want the OB's professional opinion.
Good deal? or nah?

Look at NADA guide, then it depends on how much you like it. Good luck!

Looks like his price is right under NADA. Around here it would be a little high, but that style isnt as popular here as it is in LA.

If I can get him down $1000 I'm probabaly gonna pull the trigger. He has a guy taking it for a test drive Saturday. If he doesn't get it I'm going after it.

Seems reasonable but also depends on what it comes loaded with/ what you'd have to spend to get it how you'd like... Electronics, powerpole, trolling motor etc.

Comes with an older model GPS/fishfinder, trollin motor, am/fm radio. I might ad jack plate and powerpole. How much does a good jack plate cost?

Get your mechanic to check it out....from prop to trolling motor.

Anyone recomend a good trustworthy boat mechanic in lake charles area? The boat is in orange and I would want to haul it all the way to BR to get it checked out

Guys at Lake Area Marine are solid and honest from my experience...

Don't quote me on this but I wanna say 6-700$ for a hydraulic jackplate installed and 2-300$ for a manual one installed. I know some people install it themselves but I don't trust myself with that

I will be shocked if the guy test driving it doesn't buy that boat. And if he doesn't you should (if it checks out)

Yeah this board seems to have a hard on for nautic star they are nice for a mid tier boat but folks here act like they are a yellowfin.

I'm fricking with him bc we just bought one and he knows this and will be coming out on it

I think the opposite actually, and I read every boat thread. Calm down, he was making a joke because his dad just bought one.

I have that exact boat minus one year, and same motor (2003). I love it. I've fished it harder than pretty much anybody else I know could've, from Fourchon to Lake P to the marsh to the MS Sound.
Boat:
Cons first: It takes a little while to get used to, because it can be a wet riding boat. That being said, I've been in some nasty shite in that boat and only really felt uncomfortable a couple of times in the MS Sound and Lake P. It is an absolute pain in the arse to get underneath the deck to take care of shite. They've fixed this on the newer skeeters, but if you need anything run directly under the deck (like around the console), get someone else to do it and save yourself the trouble.
Pros: The fishing layout is awesome. I always find myself internally criticizing the layouts of other boats when I'm on them because I'm used to my skeeter. It's a no bullshite fishing boat. It's also fast and doesn't draft too much. I don't have a jack plate, but I've used it to fish redfish tournaments without a problem. It obviously can't run as skinny as my surface drive, but it'll get back there. IMO it's one of the best all around fishing boats I've ever been on. It's a nice boat, but it's not "too nice" if you know what I mean.
Motor:
Cons: The only legitimate negative I have to say about my motor is it drinks gas pretty well and it's loud compared to these new four strokes.
Pros: Everything else. It's fast as hell, gets out of the hole like a scalded ape, and handles great. I've never had any issues with it other than routine maintenance (replacing water pump/impeller a couple of times, changing seals, etc.).
I would buy another Skeeter without a doubt, but I'd go 24/250 or 300 for what I do. Not everyone needs 24 though.
For price, I think that's a good deal considering the condition. Mine is probably in 6/10 condition with a power pole, trolling motor, GPS/finder, wash down, radio, and some other shite, and that's probably about what I'd ask for it. I wouldn't go much lower.
