just what i was about to post. Alec, Shreveport, and Eunice would all be shut down before they even thought about touching Baton Rouge.

im shocked how many people are falling for this "worst case scenario" crap

It wont close. But I am starting to worry about the amount of classes that will go away and how many professors that will be layed off.

They don't want anything cut. They just want to tax the rich more and keep the fat and waste in the system. God forbid LSU actually tried to implement online classes or do away with the Vice President of diversity and his 100k salary.

Okay let's say 20 dozen admin positions making 200k per year, which is not the case. But thats only $4M per year savings. We need 100's of millions to cut.

Many want to eliminate some Dept's. Those departments have small number of faculty. Let's say 150k based on 9 month appointment for 10 faculty. They must have grant funding to cover the remaining 3 months. Then again university take 49% off the top of grants coming in so thats even less money coming in.

I don't see large savings anywhere. LSU had huge cuts 5-6 years ago for a couple years in a row. Not much left to cut that will save tens of millions

thanks, Hannity.

we have one of the lowest gas taxes in the country. if it were *gasp* raised just a few cents, that would go a long way toward bringing much-needed revenue into the state so that we wouldn't have to gut higher education and healthcare. or, what if we *gasp* accept the Medicaid expansion that would bring in millions, since we are already paying for it with our federal taxes.

you don't have to be a fricking liberal to see that there are very, very remedial solutions that Jindal won't even consider because he wants to have a failing presidential bid.

It's looking like the 16% of Jindals support post on the rant. Haha!

Wonder how much savings from shutting down Eunice and Shreveport LSU campuses.

LSU is the leading university in the state. The president of that university needs to make a drastic statement to support higher education in the state.

LSU can barely cut its own grass as facility services got hit hard several years ago.

Its time to address the issue of why these cuts.

Yep. And the fact that he thinks he has a serious shot at the presidential nomination shows you how bat shite crazy he is.

There is no way his views on education can be taken seriously when Louisiana ranks last and his tax breaks resulting in even more education cuts. Not to mention being outside Louisiana for 165 days last year for republican party business on Louisiana tax payers dime.

These doom and gloom stories always get circulated before and during the legislative session. That way they have you expecting the absolute worst. Then when they cut and arm and a leg off you are overjoyed it wasn't your head too.

No way LSU closes for a year, and if you believe that, you are naive.

Answering your hypothetical question, no school means no students, and no students means no football.

Maybe Alexander should consult his Business college and learn how to manage the funds he already has instead of making it worst by opening his mouth. Maybe he should leave and the state can find someone who can make it work. Mean time he is trying hard to hurt the university more than it already is. And education is not a back burner item for conservatives like all those liberal politicians want you to believe.

I see you did not get the CBO report from earlier in the week that disporved that talking point or the news a couple of weeks ago that Arkansas is paying much more than they thought they would.
quote:

rkansas expanded Medicaid through its private option earlier this year, the Department of Health and Human Services estimated that the first-of-its-kind program would be budget-neutral. But now federal auditors are blaming HHS for flawed estimates and say it will actually cost taxpayers an extra $778 million over the next three years.

In a new report from the Government Accountability Office, auditors say HHS did not ensure budget neutrality.

quote:

A recent report from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) confirms what many policy experts have known for some time: states that reject Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion aren’t sending that Medicaid expansion money to other states. Instead, that money is simply never spent.

This revelation is important because numerous governors and state lawmakers from across the country have used this argument to justify their support for expanding Medicaid through Obamacare. However, as CRS succinctly explains, these arguments are entirely frivolous.

Also raising the gas tax would do nothing to help LSU because its revenues are dedicated and constitutionally protected. So if you raised the tax you would have money to do some of the mega projects but not save LSU.
