Ruz, I don't think I'd ever heard supper referred to as dinner until I went to LSU. I was confused.

I felt the same way, heck I grew up in Norco (nestled in between Shell Chemical and Shell Oil) and didn't know that stars existed until I went to college at Southeastern. (all that flaring caused tons of light pollution)

I still refer to that green thing you wash your car with as a hose pipe.

I don't think I've heard of "hose pipe" that I can recall. It's just the hose.

I absolutely love making scrambled eggs or an omelette with dirty rice or boudin. Brown the rice just a little first so it has a slight crunch. C'est bon! It's somethung I discovered as an adult. Growing up, we never had leftover rice. That milk gravy needed a home at dinner/supper the night before (we used those interchangeably)

I've had scrambled eggs & rice but what was even better was fried eggs (with runny yolks) over rice. Pop dat yolk & stir all that together with some black pepper; now I'm hungry for "eggnrice".
Also still refer to middle meal as dinner & night meal as supper.

Raised on Sc ambled eggs & rice.

Better if you add the rice first with the butter for a bit.

Hell throw a few crawfish tails and green onions in there while your at it

I spent some time in Costa Rica doing mission work. The family I stayed with served the same breakfast every morning for a month:

Scrambled Eggs
Rice
Black Beans
Loaf of bread with cream cheese and pineapple jam
Black coffee

my grandma use to make it for us once in awhile

funny you mention it. My coonass grandma did this all the time. after she died, the daughters put a recipe for it in her remembrance cookbook. the ingredients are scrambled eggs and leftover rice. Technical.

Oh yeah, this. The runny yolk makes a risotto-like dish.

We used to eat this offshore. The cook made it as kind of a breakfast jambalaya. It was pretty good.

Mom would also cook what she called smothered potatoes. She would sweat onions and garlic in butter. Add thinly sliced red potatoes to the pot on high heat. She would let them almost scorch and brown in the pot, stir the potatoes often and then add chopped green onions the last few minutes.

This was so good. Anyone have this?

Yes indeed this was so good!!!

It's not just a southern thing. Think about what's in fried rice.
