Carlos Boozer did not play vs. the Thunder on Tuesday and the Lakers' coaching staff told him that he's unlikely to play for the next "four or five games." Boozer has been a net negative player both offensively and defensively this season, per Basketball Reference, but his inactivity is another signal that the Lakers are ready to tank in earnest over their final 12 games. Boozer is not a viable fantasy option, even if he does claw his way back into the rotation. His absence opens up more minutes for Ryan Kelly, Tarik Black, Ed Davis and Robert Sacre, but only Davis is a worth owning in standard leagues

Jordan Hill (tanking) will likely sit out for the next four to five games so that the Lakers can evaluate their younger players.

If they were tanking, they'd play Boozer. IMO

If they don't end up in the top 5, they lose their pick. I get why they're doing it.

Ed Davis is much better than Boozer.

They're doing this to save their pick (top 5 protected), which was originally included in the Nash trade with Phoenix.

I would faint if they somehow jumped New York for the #1 pick on lottery night.

Ed Davis is really good compared to the rest of the Lakers' big men. He played less than 20 minutes tonight. I know Byron Scott isn't smart, but they are absolutely tanking.

Nah, not now when they bench Boozer, maybe somewhere around 3 seasons ago

A) when they bid against themselves to overpay for an injured KB?
B) when they let KB essentially call DH a bitch instead of either leaving him out of the pitch meeting to keep him or making him play nice?
C) when they refused to pay Phil the money and respect he required to return?
D) when they brought in D'antoni for his name even tho his style made zero sense with their roster?
E) when they fire MD and still release a productive Gasol... replacing him with a lesser player in Boozer?

I think arguably their two biggest frick ups outside of the Kobe contract is getting nothing for Pau and Dwight on their way out. Dwight obviously makes a bit more sense, but they dangled Pau on the trade market for seemingly two seasons for nothing.

D'antoni is much more than just a name. The damn guy revolutionized how offense is played in the NBA.

right, but the reason the Lakers hired him was the name. it seems impossible to believe either he or the front office thought his style was a good fit for that roster.

Boozer is the worst goddamn basketball player in the league. Thank god it was only a 1 year contract.

F) The vetoed CP3 tradethat set off a chain reaction of terrible decisions afterwards.

1. Dwight Howard likely doesn't leave if Paul is a Laker. He wanted to be paired with a young superstar guard, not an old team.

2. LA panicked after missing out on CP3 and then getting curbstomped by OKC in the playoffs. They responded by trading four draft picks and $10M per to a 38 year old Nash who would only play 60 games in 3 seasons in LA.

3. After Mike Brown was fired, Phil Jackson was itching to come back and coach this old all star team in disarray. Due to having Nash on board, Jerry Buss (while lying on his deathbed) made his last wish to be that the Lakers hire D'Antoni and bring Showtime back to LA with an old team that did not need to play that brand of basketball.

4. Dwight Howard was practically begging to be coached by Jackson. Hindsight is 20/20 but I don't think Phil would've let the Kobe/Howard relationship turn as sour as it did.

5. D'Antoni runs the team into the ground, has Kobe playing his highest amount of minutes per game in 5 years (he averaged over 40 after the ASG) and voila, Kobe ruptured his achilles with a week left in the season, practically cementing that Howard was going to leave.

TL;DR - CP3 veto caused the Lakers to drain all their assets to acquire Nash, causing the wrong coach to come to LA, causing Howard to walk.
