"Direct Factory Replacement Blower Motor with Module (Frigidaire)"

I'm not sure what a "module" is, but it must be fancy.

there is a control board for a kitchen aid fridge that is $1200.
manufacturers are getting crazy with parts prices.

Crazy.

And I forgot the best part. 5 year warranty, unit is 5.5 years old.

I'm over by Lake Charles.

I trust the AC guy, but couldn't help but try to figure out why it was so much for a simple motor. He quoted $640, best I found it on the web was $626.

Still not sure what makes it special. I figure it is either 1 db quieter, or saves me $3/yr worth of power.

I had mine replaced 2 months ago. Old one was 12 years old and stopped turning. It was a Goodman motor and costs me less than $600 including labor.

your AC guy obviously doesn't know about ACME then. They probably have that motor for less than $200

The "module" causes it to fail at 6 months after the warranty expires duh!

Appliance Parts markup is border line thievery.
Same for small engine (mower) parts.

Yup. I could probably build that "module" for under $100 easily. Pure markup

You NEED it, they got it, and they're gonna PIIYB. Same as insurance, doctors, electricity, groceries, . . .

Freaking sucks, my compressor motor just went out. I knew I was smart in getting that 10 year parts and labor warranty. Unit is about 6 years old.

Are there alternatives to "direct factory replacement"? They obviously can't make a simple electric motor that will last more than 5.5 years. And no way should something like that cost more than two or three hundred bucks.

Direct Factory Replacement Blower Motor with Module (Frigidaire)

More than likely the motor is a variable speed motor. The "module" controls the speeds. It is not just a standard off the shelf 3 speed 3/4hp blower motor. His cost on the motor was probably in the $395-425 range from the distributor. Tack on a 2 hour service call ($65-$85/hr) and say 15-20% for overhead and profit and you are probably right at your $640 bill.
