So I volunteered to coach a boys/girls 4 year old Tball team. Our first practice is Friday. Any tips on how to organize or run a practice with a bunch of little brats.

FML! I already having moms complain about color of uniforms, time of practice and location. What the hell is wrong with people. I have spent the better part of 2 days contacting parents and giving them all the information on jamoboree, team pictures, practices and games and everyone f'n complains.

I am thinking practice will consist of giving each kid a bat and saying yall go pitch to each other.

Ridiculous they have tball for kids that age.

I refuse to put my kids in ball that early. Waste of time.

I don't think it's a waste. Practice hand-eye coordination, meet new kids, get them active. What's the matter with that?

teach basic skills
Roll balls to them, have them throw toward a target/person, take turns batting off the tee into the fence. later, have them each get 5 swings off the tee to the whole team fielding as a live play on the last hit.
Set a constant time and location for practice- every Wednesday at 6. The moms will bitch no matter what. If they don't like it, invite them to come coach next year.

GOOD LUCK!

Gotta get that muscle memory going early, otherwise he'll never make it to the bigs.

You want to start them off fast. Show them the drop curve, the high fastball, and make sure the pitcher works the corners of the plate.

Mine played at 4 and will again his year. She loves it. I'm not trying to develop her for the pros....just wanting her to have fun.

Split them up in 2 or 3 groups. let one group hit off the tee for 15 min, the other group play pitch for 15 min and the 3rd group field ground balls for 15 min. Have them rotate to each station. After 45 min practice is over.

The key is to keep them busy the entire time...dont let them just sit there and pick flowers or stare at the clouds.

Oh and BTW...if you didnt pick your team based on the way the moms look, then you're doing it wrong.

At that age, I feel like batthing and running the bases are just about as much as you'll get out of them.

Let each kid bat 2-3 times, then tell them to run to first. Let the kids that aren't batting get in the field in their positions, and have them practice throwing the ball to the pitcher's mound. Is it competitive, or is this the league where everybody bats and can only run one base at a time (more like a skills clinic)

I coach tee ball and have for years....

1. frick the parents....just do what is right for the kids...the parents don't like it, tell em to volunteer as a coach
2. get some helpers and break them kids up into stations...hitting, throwing, grounders
3. at your hitting station, turn the tees toward the back stop and have them hit into the fence there...
4. at the end of a good station practice, which should be rotated through during about a 45 minute block, put them all in there positions defensively and let a few hit, simulating a game...do this at the end of every practice..
5. have them run the bases before and after practice to get them familiar with the bases and what they will be doing in a game
6. get a dug out mom
7. make your batting order not based on ability, but for what flows best for...this lady ^^^^^
8. don't take it very seriously and have thick skin

I volunteer coached my son's 4y/o T-ball team. The biggest thing was making sure when the ball was hit that ALL 10 of our 4 year olds playing defense didn't all run to the ball.

Make sure they know how to run the bases. Have multiple coaches on the field to ensure they stay at their positions and pay attention.

You will probably never get a force out or fly out

Then play with her in the yard a few hours a week and a day on the weekend

Sorry.. I just find it pointless. I feel they would get more satisfaction out of backyard practice than watching and standing around that mess

But they get to meet new kids and make friends. That's what it's about.

His/her best friend could be on that team.

organized sports are good for kids that age...it helps them socially as well as physically from the aspects of coordination, etc....you sound like a tool....
