Already have a roku but want something with no wires to go on bedroom tv.

Pros/cons of both?

I assume both are compatible with hbogo, slingtv, netflix, amazon prime and watch espn.

Are you trying to sideload? Or just go with the basic apps?

Amazon fire stick has to be plugged in. I thought it had no wires too and was disappointed in that regard.

I can add nothing to this thread.

But, I find it fascinating that "Cosmo" and "KosmoCramer" are having a conversation......seems oddly entertaining

They both require USB for power. If your TV has a USB port, then you will have a wire going from the USB port to the stick, which probably won't be a big deal. If your TV doesn't, then you will have to run a wire to an ac plug.

Basic difference is that fire stick comes with a remote and has slightly better specs.

Sideloading is installing an app that isn't available through the app store. It's not always about being of questionable legality. If you have Dishnetwork, you can sideload the Dish Anywhere app and cut down on the number of receivers you need. Completely legal, but not available in the fire stick app store.

Personally I like that fact that the fire stick is more of a stand alone device. The fact that you can sideload android apps doesn't hurt either.

tried plugging mine into the USB port on the tv, but an error came up on the screen saying it was an insufficient power source and to use the recommended ac plug.

Of those two, go with the fire stick. Since you already have a roku though, have you considered the roku stick? It would be familiar to you already in its user interface.

HDMI doesn't put out enough power for the sticks. They have to be plugged in; lucky for me, I can just plug it into the USB port.

I have all of the streaming devices and I can honestly say that I prefer the Amazon Fire TV/stick over all other streaming devices. It does everything all the others do and you can also load Kodi on it without having root the device.

YouTube search how to side load Kodi onto the Fire devices. If you can post on this website, I bet you can figure out how to follow the how to videos.

Chromecast is my least favorite streaming device. This is my personal opinion and not an attack on you chromecast fan boys.

FireTV and its Ethernet port. Wifi too iffy for reliable streaming in my bedroom.

I have the stick in the den but I am about to replace it with another FireTV.

Same here. I used the wall USB plug and set it all up. Then I noticed the USB on the TV and plugged it into that. It booted up fine, and worked for a few minutes when I was scrolling through the apps and options, then I got a message about the power source. I unplugged it and plugged it back in to the TV, and the same thing happened a few minutes later. So I just ended up using the wall plug. No big deal since mine sits on a big piece of furniture and all the wires are hidden. But it does cut down on the portability of it. I bought it when they went on sale for $19 and was thinking I could move it between TV's easier than the Roku I have and just keep a USB plug near each TV, but fishing that wire out from behind the furniture each time is a pain. I guess I'll either buy another one or buy another mini USB cable for the upstairs TV.
