On topic though, pretty much the entire old PBS block of cooking shows on Saturday mornings was amazing.
Yan Can Cook, Ciao Italia, Frugal Gourmet, anything with Julia Child or Jacques Pepin, Breakfast at Brennan's, John Folse, Justin Wilson, Graham Kerr, etc.
More recent favorites: Iron Chef, Mind of a Chef, Good Eats.

I liked the format of the old Great Chefs series...no BS, just a chef in an actual restaurant setting, knocking out the dish. Minimal production values, no pseudo interactive nonsense, no drama. Just cooking.
I found it entertaining to watch Earl Peyroux, he always seemed a tad tipsy. His theme song was a jazzy piano version of These Foolish Things.

No mention by anyone Mind of a Chef.
I had no idea about this until I saw it on Netflix. Amazing show, I just dont think it got much exposure.
It's won multiple emmy's and james beard awards. It's about real restaurant business running chefs so it's not as intriguing to the public as Ramsey yelling or an 8 year old cooking on Fox.

I don't have cable so I watch a lot of cooking shows on 12.3, the WYES feed for Create TV. I like watching Kevin Dundon, an Irish chef. He has a couple of different series including a "Back to Basics." He's pretty good.
