What if Jordan Mickey returns next season, can we make the final 4?

It's a long shot (for him to return) but could possibly happen. We could have a very solid talented starting line up with good depth at the guard position. We would also have two legitimate big men down low in Mickey and Victor and a big SF in Simmons. Could have a tall starting lineup even if we would have no true center.

We could have made it this year, probably could make it next year with or without him. So many chance factors come in at the end of basketball games it's tough to predict.

Hornsby hit the three at end of Arkansas game (no Mickey), Hornsby misses a three late in the game against nc state (Mickey).
Mickey had nothing to do with either of these plays. multiple tournament games will have come down to late chance shots by both sides if we were to make the final four. Just enjoy watching whatever talent we have and hope for some luck... That's the only way to watch basketball in my opinion lol

Having said all that obviously I think we are better with him than without him, but the final four will be within our teams ceiling either way in my opinion

Keep him off the free throw line and I think there's a shot.

I think we certainly can, but even with a talented team it takes luck.

We're going to be anywhere from 8-10 deep next year. I'm looking forward to seeing how Robinson comes along after losing all the weight.

Simmons, Blakeney, Malik, and Victor

+

Mickey, Quarterman, Hornsby, Gray, Patterson, Robinson, Malone, Epps, and Bridgewater.

This gets said more than the 1 year thing. Guess what? Next year is the year we've been looking towards for the last 2 years now since Simmons committed.

We're bringing in 3 McDonalds All-Americans, and probably a 4th with Malik Newman.

Most think LSU's biggest problem was depth last season, that won't be an issue this year, especially if Mickey returns.

We're looking at one of the deeper teams in the country

We couldve made it this year. I think we can make it next year with or without him, but our bench is going to have to play more, and be better. (I think it will) will we make the final four? I dont know, its a tournament and anything canhappen.

Blakeney said on Cullota & The Prince on 104.5 FM in Baton Rouge on Thursday morning that "LSU is very real in Malik Newman's recruitment," and "I think we're going to get him."

I've heard from other people in the recruiting circle that he's ours to lose. Of course, these are 18 year old kids, so that can change

By late in the game do you mean with 7 minutes left against NC State?

eta: Also this shows that if a player, even a star player, isn't 100% then you should replace him in the lineup... at least give him a little more rest than normal.

We absolutely can. We have the best player in the country coming in. And basketball is the one sport where one player can totally turn around a team. Not saying we will make the final four but we no doubt will have he potential to

Not as long as the only offensive play is pick and roll and shoot the 3. No chance at follow up shots, greater chance at missing. Why have big men if the 3 pointer is the majority of the play calling? Just have 5 shooting guards.

that's probably our best most realistic starting lineup. 4 shooting guards and victor down low. Quarterman, Horsnby, Blakeney, and Simmons, along with victor in the post. Would be a pretty formidable lineup to deal with on offense. On defense it would be tough to defend and get rebounds against teams with good big men though. We could just light up the board with that lineup. Wouldn't be a short lineup though. That's some pretty tall shooting guards and a short center/power forward.

IMO, getting Mickey back would be even more important to next year's team than getting Newman. The reason is that Mickey adds an aspect to this team that no one currently or coming in can bring.

Right now you've got a potential emerging SEC star at PG (Quarterman); a veteran SG that can almost guarantee you 10+ points per night (Hornsby); a PG/SG that has shown he belongs at this level and is willing to take and make big shots (Patterson); a potential big time freshman scorer at SG (Blakeney) and a Freshman 3/4 that will probably be even better than a current All SEC player. The one big spot you have to replace is a 4 who was for most of the season top 5 in ppg/rpg/bpg in the league. Yes the finish was tough, but Mickey was probably the front runner for SEC POY as late as mid-way through Feb.

Don't get me wrong, getting Newman would be HUGE. Even without him though, LSU should still be very good at guard. Without Mickey, LSU's frontcout isn't anywhere near as intimidating
