Here's a little from it.

quote:

Q: What's an example of something you could do in high school and can't do now?

A: I'd say just small stuff in the routes, like standing upright or not getting through a press. Once you get here, they'll manhandle you. Some of the bigger safeties have a stronger grip and wider arms that you're not used to in high school. They get a hold of you and there's no looking back from there.

Q: Is it a matter of adjusting?

A: It's a huge adjustment. Along with that, blocking some of the big safeties and big linebackers, and occasionally the dropping linemen, that's a huge part of it. That's something we'll take into the offseason weight room, trying to get bigger, stronger and faster to create better matchups for ourselves.

Absolutely. People quickly forgot about the tons of passes that OBJ and Landry dropped in 2012 because they had a monster year after that.

People were calling for Adam Henry's head that year, probably including myself a few times.

I had a chance to interview him a couple of years ago. He's a really grounded kid, which is surprising given the fanfare in his recruitment/high school career.

He's got the tools. He'll do well this season.

I like this man a lot. Good attitude and hopefully grows into a great Tiger.

He makes a good point. my best friend player flanker at LSU. His freshman year, his first route was against a guy named Tommy Casanova. Said TC knocked him down three times before the QB threw the ball (to someone else).

Nope, never happened! OBJ dropped a few passes, but Landry never had drop problems. I never counted, but I'd estimate OBJ dropped five and Landry dropped two that year. Two is not a ton.

The bigger problem that year was that Mett overthrew his deep routes by a good 3-4 yards consistently.

How many did TQ have?

OBjr had more than JL and Brandon lafell had more than both.

I'd estimate that you are wrong.

That sounds official.

Let's all agree that these numbers are correct and all historical books of record should reflect these numbers as the truth.

With even a mediocre QB last year TQ would have shined

This is something that gets overlooked so much. Cameron completely changed the deep throws. Instead of trying to stretch the D and get behind the safeties he taught Mett to throw back shoulder and let the WR go get it.

I'm a little biased in my opinion of TQ, but I hope he destroys for the next 3 years.

While this doesn't exactly give how many drops or overthrows occurred this still paints a pretty clear picture that both receivers were pretty even in targets vs completions: 2012 receiving stats

It's a long spreadsheet but LSU WRs are a little more than 1/3 down the list.
Landry 51 targets to 31 completions for a rating of 60.8%
OBjr 48 targets to 30 completions and rating of 62.5%

It also appears as though most of Odell's targets were deeper throws leading to the 201 receiving yard advantage despite having one less reception. That could lead to a higher drop rate though we don't know for sure from the data available.

I see you're a big TQ fan. So do you think TQ will be as good as OBJ and Landry?

Can I put you on record for thinking this?
