I have an echo that uses these thin pre-cut strings that don't last. Do any of you guys have an opinion on a replacement head? Thanks.

Yeah, get a regular head. Get the kind that is easy to roll string onto since most people cannot seem to do it.

You'll need to go to am echo shop and get the correct one because I think there are two or three kinds of the easy string rolling ones. Get the thickest string your engine can spin. The shop will let you know that also

Any thoughts on the heads with blades as opposed to string?

I've fought this for years

Mine breaks 10 times every time I do my yard; I start cussing, the wife comes outside and my son starts laughing.

Skip the gimmicks and just go the easy route. It works perfectly fine. There are good reasons professionals use string

Blades sounds all well and good at first until the image of one stuck into your shin comes up.

Get a standard spool head made for the size engine you have.

Yeah, Echo sells them at their shops too. Couldn't remember the name of them though

I have a Stihl head that uses the plastic blades. It does a good job for heavy brush and very small saplings if you need it for that. It is not by any means a replacement for string. It's not as versatile.

Also have a chisel blade... It's a beast. No problem with 3-4" trees.

Do you know if it works on Stihl? The link didn't list them.

Speed feed is legit. I use my trimmer a good bit. I just carry a pre cut piece in my pocket. Takes about 30 seconds to load. Line the holes up, put in string, twist. This is my second year using it and I have not had trouble yet.

I'm not sure. I've only used it on a red maxx.

I'm sure there's a model for Stihl, or at least a comparable product that works on stihls.

It's a simple gizmo. You just stab about 10' of line though it, half arse center it, wind it up, and go.

Yeah, had something similar on my old unit. The site leaves a lot to the imagination, I'll call Gretna's shop and ask.
Thx

Most manufacturers have their own version. I know the echo store had some when I went to pick up a new head last year

I know shindawa has their own head that works the same. I never had a problem with it or the speed feed. Both held plenty of line and worked well. Only thing I didn't like about the speed feed was that it would speed un-feed also, and with weedeaters that don't have guards you end up with about 3' of string sticking out the first time you use it. It takes some time to adjust from junky button-style heads to that thing.

The speed spools used to come with adapters for each manufacturer. Came with 3/4 different studs and spacers.
