OT Lawncare Discussion - Aerator Shoes

Looking to aerate the front (especially) and back yards. I'm sure they're inferior to a machine, but will the shoes you can find on Amazon worth it? They're a much more inexpensive solution, but do they work worth a dang?
I went looking for an Agri-Fab push Aerator (non powered), but Lowe's can't get it to me until April 7th as its not in store and I don't want to wait that long.

From everything that I have read, plug aeration is the best for the yard. It allows better absorption and puts the trace minerals from the plugs back into the yard. I did my yard two years ago and rented a motorized plug aerator from Ace Hardware for about 80 bucks for 4 hours. My neighbor and I split the cost because we were able to do both our yards (.25 acres apiece) and still had 1.5 hours left on the four hours.

Yeah, just rent one. I think Home Depot even rents them
