Gonna bring the family this October. Better to stay at Disney resort or not?

Yes. Whatever limits the bus riding, which sucks. Or you could try disneyland. If you have kids under 8, I suggest Land for mere convenience

Depends. I have stayed at resorts and 2000 square foot resort vilas. Depends on how long you will be there, the size of your party, the age of your kids, whether you want a kitchen, etc.

Just got back from a trip to DW. If you can afford it I recommend staying at a disney resort on the monorail. That's if you plan on going to magic kingdom for the majority of the time. Very short waits for monorail and you get back to the hotel in 5 or 10 mins once you get on.

Also you get fast pass if you stay at a disney resort. That was huge for us. You get to book 3 rides a day and if you use those you can then go to a kiosk and get another. I don't know all the rules on getting fast pass but I highly recommend getting that.

I've done both. With kids, on site is better. You have the transportation system, which is great. 20 minutes is the longest I've ever had to wait for a bus, even during peak seasons. You can have souvenirs you buy sent to your resort, so you don't have to tote those bags around all day. If you stay offsite, you'll be wasting at least 4 hours of your day to and from the parks. The only downside to staying on-property is the price.

its a tricky situation

Staying on the grounds: Close to everything, and everything is Disney related

Staying off grounds: I always like riding around Orlando seeing everything else the city has.

We caught the spring discount for deluxe resorts and got Polynesian for 35% off. This will be the first time we've stayed on the monorail. Can't wait.

Yep we got some type of spring discount and stayed at the poly as well. I was very impressed how quick and easy the monorail was.

Also, staying on site you get the extra hours early in the morning or late at night where the parks are much emptier.

It's $17 a day to park. So how much are you really saving to stay off site?

Good point. We went at 7 am during magic hours and it was so much better to do things.

Stay on site. Bus transport can be a pain but driving to parks and taking Parking Lot Trams are easy.

Most convenient are Monorail linked resorts (Grand Floridian, Poly & Contemporary). But you will still have the same issue when going to any parks outside of Magic Kingdom.

Also, if Epcot and/or Hollywood are your favorite Parks, I would recommend staying at Boardwalk or Yacht/Beach Club. You can walk to the rear entrance of Epcot or take the boat the Hollywood Studios.

Orlando the city is pretty shitty IMO. I would not recommend staying offsite unless you're staying at the Ritz or something.
