When does energy weakness start hammering main street in Texas?

I assume Houston will take it the hardest of the big cities. I know there have been layoffs, but housing et al still seems pretty strong. Any thoughts on when we might say actually pull-through in the real economies there?

I disagree about Houston taking a big hit. I mean, from the late 80's until present, I wouldn't say that they've ever struggled. Even during the 2008 great recession their economy was ok.

Cheap oil = good for refined products.

I think Houston is going to be safe. But I'd look at the third quarter of this year for significant down turn if any does occur.

Texas is a more diversified economy than in the 80's. It'll create some softness but Texas is a really strong economic engine.

What about places like Midland or Lafayette that are more dependent on oilfield services types of jobs?
