And tyreke doesn't like to come off the bench. Until this year when he realized it was for the betterment of the team. Not saying AD needs serious minutes at center, but his ability to do so could mean us not having to pay a guy like Asik a lot of money.

Ok I see where your coming from. I would rather the Pelicans get the pick this year bc the pick is much lower than the cavs. We are young and sort of rebuilding/semi-competing and need young pieces to fill out the roster, cavs don't. Houston is gonna get a solid draft pick this year in a pretty deep draft from top to bottom.

we said it was deep one year, and then next thing you know it came out to AD, Lillard, Drummond, and a bunch of crap/role players.

Odds of finding someone at 14 is not easy, but I do get what you mean. Trading a 1st for him was not ideal since Houston was trying to beg teams to take him. That isn't asik's fault, but you can't deny this tidbit of analytics.

WS is one of the most accurate depictions of what a player brings to a team.

#1 - AD 11.6 WS (8.2 OWS, 3.3 DWS)
#2 - Asik 4.4 WS (2.5 OWS, 1.9 DWS)

But what I'm saying is I really think Asik is a rental, so the pick would be a waste. Time will tell. I don't want Asik coming back but if he does he does. If he doesn't we just wasted a draft pick without gaining any playoff experience.

He manned up and realized it was good for the team. That's not a bad thing at all and shows character development.

Decent centers will cost you some money either way. they tried going the cheap brusier route with steimsma and it failed miserably.

Stiesma + Ajinca = 3.3mil
Asik = 8mil

We went cheap, we got bad results.

Ok but it couldn't really get any worse with Greg steimsma. Thank god the team wasn't in playoff contention or I might have actually lost it. Time will tell time will tell. That's really all. If Asik re-signs then the argument can continue technically. But if he doesn't, huge waste of a pick. I also don't want to overpay him either. I would welcome him back for the right price.

Your "right price" is severely undervalued. At the current cost, he'd be the 19th highest paid center in the league. Is he a top 19 center? Yes, easily.

You want him to get paid 3yr/12mil, 4.0mil/yr

That'd put him at 34 and the same pay as Ian Mahinmi, less than Brandon Haywood, Chris Kaman, Zaza Pachulia, JJ Hickson, Spencer Hawes, and Boris Diaw.

Thats a bad example, it is possible to get a solid center with a good contract

But that includes having a good coach who will coach them up

I never thought Noah would be an amazing center when he was drafted, but Tommy Tib did a great job coaching him up

Other than AD, players do not come to the Pelicans and play better... this has to be because of coaching

I'm not sure if your a saints fan or not or if your familiar with Tom benson. But Asik is not getting paid 15 mill a year. He will be very lucky to get 8 a year that counts against the cap. He's gonna want more bc of how much he's used to getting. No way benson balloons his contract again like the rockets did, no freaking way. Benson won't fork out that money. Asik had 1 year left on his deal so I think benson was willing to do it. If Asik is worth 8 mill to you or something in that range think about how much he's worth to himself after getting a serious payday this past season.

Okay, lets go through the list of sub 6mil centers.
Hawes 5.66mil
Monroe 5.5mil (this will be higher, he signed a 1yr deal to become a UFA)
Hickson 5.38mil
Pachulia 5.2mil
Lopez 5.12mil (we had him, monty is retarded)
Wright 5.0mil
Kaman 4.9mil (old, we had him too)
Kanter 4.66mil (offensive center, good rebounder, bad defensively)
Embiid 4.5mil
Mozgov 4.5mil (worth it)
Haywood 4.2mil
Zeller 4.03mil
Mahinmi 4.0mil (his foul rate is just as bad as Ajinca its like 6/36mins)
Valanciunas 3.8mil
Joel Anthony 3.65mil (yeah, no.)

it is not easy. A lot are on rookie contracts, a lot are 2nd-3rd depth guys

I wouldn't say all,There's been a few examples of guys playing well here.

Q-Pon has been much better here this year than when he played for memphis to start the year:

NOP - 8.5 PPG 3.1 Rebounds 1.6 Asts 40.1% 3 PT 44.2% FG
MEM - 4.5 PPG 1.9 Rebounds 0.9 Asts 23.3% 3 PT 35.6% FG

he signed a 3yr/25mil contract, the poison pill idiocricy is he gets paid 15mil, but his average salary is only 8.3mil. I'm going based off the average salary from this year.

You also have to consider the inflation of contracts coming soon, the cap is estimated 63mil this year. They estimated it will shoot up to 90mil in a couple of years. Players and agents know that, they're going to want a larger %.

If Asik's average salary is 8.3mil right now, his avg salary is 13.17% of the total salary cap.

If that % stays the same, or even I'll just make it lower to 11%, at a 90mil salary cap you're looking at 9.9mil/yr

I believe there is very little chance Monty will be going anywhere anytime soon.

I would have totally agreed with this 2 months ago but I think he is on his way out now and the injury excuse won't be enough for him. The team needs new leadership and the management that has the power to remove him will do so. The only question is will they replace Demps as well but I think he stays at least one more year.
