Pretty good film breakdown of what went on last night, if you can bear to re-watch it.
When the three guys ran into each other at the top of the key, I had a feeling it was about to get bad.

Really good read, though painful. Had every chance to win the game, just didn't step up to the moment. This team will have another chance next year and I expect it is a better result.

LSU literally runs two different offenses depending on the PG (though not by design). Last night you saw the savvy of Quarteman (most of the game at least). When Gray is at the point the offense is simply just what can HE do to either score or set a teammate up off the dribble. He constantly passes up screens and refuses to allow the ball to swing around the perimeter when he's in. I can't count how many times this season I've watched a wing pop out to take a pass to initiate the offense, only to have Gray look right at him and continue to dribble waiting to make his move.

A lot I agree with. Some I disagree with, but I echo the following 100%:
By all accounts Martin seems to be a great kid, but he's just not the guy who wants to step on an opponents throat in crunch time. He was the 2nd best player on the court besides TQ for 30 minutes. Then with the game and season slipping away he is MIA. Instead LSU tried to ride the back of a guy who, while a great college player, hasn't had any confidence on the offensive end for a month!!! How do you go away from a guy that had a great 1st half and has had a great last month? How?!!!
For Martin this was Kentucky all over again. He seemed unstoppable for the first 30 and nowhere to be found in crunch time. Just a skilled, physical screener when it mattered most

This happened a lot. It's a disgrace, and you blame the coach.
Late against UK and the A&M losses immediately come to mind as other examples. Close games against good teams which have momentum...slow the frick down and run sets through your best overall player. No matter how well or mediocre he has been through the game at that point, give him the damn ball when other stuff is falling apart.

watch the last clip of that link. martin gets a pass at the top of the key with 22 seconds left. he keeps the ball in his hands for 1 second and sends it right to Qman. He didnt want the ball or the last shot. He doesnt have the killer instinct. He's not cold blooded like Kobe, or hell, like Daryl Mitchell.
So I'm not calling a TO to draw a play up for a guy who doesnt want it.
Martin could have/should have called for the ball, aske for a clearout, and dribbled to 10 on the clock and then make a move.
He doesnt want it. The coach knows it. so no, you dont blame the coach exclusively.

I saw that, too. But you are assuming a whole lot. Maybe they were running the shot clock down with some play in mind. No, probably.
I'm talking about the totality of the collapse over several minutes. When all else fails, start running the offense through your best talent. At least a couple of times in a row to try and stop the bleeding. If he doesn't want it (super highly doubtful), he shouldn't be looking to go early to the NBA.

The most sickening part about the whole thing is that NC St. wasn't that good down the stretch. This wasn't a "BYU-like" collapse from the other night where the opponent shot around 60% from the field and scored 62 points in a half.
With 10:00 to go LSU had a 12 point lead. From that point on NC State (according to my count) went 8/23 (35%) from the field and did not make a single FT during that span. LSU went nearly 1/4 of the game without making a single FG, yet it STILL took a last second shot to beat them.
When you put that in perspective it really shows you just how big of a choke job it was. NC State seemingly did everything they could not to win the game (missing several open looks, unintentionally sending LSU to the FT line) and yet STILL won. THAT'S how bad LSU was in the final 10:00!!
