What's y'all recommendation on artificials for Reds and Specs? I've always just used live shrimp but I think I'ma give artificials a shot.

The reds are so high down there right now you shouldn't need anything but a jig rigged weedless. We've been throwing purple haze matrix shads and absolutely smashing. The LASS is running down there Saturday though.
For specks, we've been throwing shrimp creole matrix shads on 5/16th oz to deal with the current, or cherry TKOs carolina rigged with 1oz bank sinkers for the deeper water.
Without getting into too much, try the shorelines of Grand Lagoon for reds. You should find clean water around there. If not, go to Ameda and check the ponds around there. If you're focused on trout, honestly I'd run to the wall. There are fish all over Chalmette right now. Lots of dinks, but you can keep at it and put together a good box.

Thanks fellas. And I will be sure to post pics. It won't be an all day trip, so I'm hoping to hit it good quick. Trying get there and launch by 630-7.

I'd get there a little earlier. Saturday's tournament is a trailer tournament as opposed to a shotgun start, so the launches down there will be packed.

Sounds like I should just go fish the wall in Chalmette. Y'all saying that tourney is in Hopedale?

They'll be all around Hopedale/Reggio/Delacroix/Biloxi marsh. Some up off the ICW too. If I were going in the morning, I'd go to Chalmette. There will probably be a crowd there too, but there are definitely trout around and you have a number of spots to work with.

Not to hijack, but what are y'all using for those flap hats? Columbia?
I need to cover my neck with this sun coming out.

Mullet?
Hope to be fishing Cocodrie in the AM, weather permitting.

Can't go wrong with a gold spoon or a soft plastic shad. Just make sure it's weedless. The grass starts growing thick this time of year

Good news and bad news fellas ... good news was the weather was gorgeous and I got to enjoy it on the boat, bad news is the fish weren't biting where I was. I got 2 speckled trout and a bass . But according to the guy at the launch no one was having luck that day.
We launched at the first boat launch coming down from the Green Bridge. Shot over to the locks and turned right to go through that first gate through the great wall. From there we hooked right again and drove the wall to where it hits the levee and trolled all over that area. NOTHING. So then we drifted across towards some grass and trolled a little along there. NOTHING. Then we putted over towards that mini blockade right to on the other side of the gate. NOTHING. By that time we decided to go shoot over to the Michoud (?) and Hot Water Canals. Here we had minimum action but was able to reel in 4 trout, 2 keepers. Caught the bass in the Hot Water Canal. This was my first time fishing this area so I had no clue the good spots. Took my gf and her father so I let him show me around as best he could (he's been there once in a small boat ... so he had limited ground he could explore).
On the positive note I took y'alls recommendations and spent $120 at Academy at lunch on Friday (also got a cajun anchor). So now I need to go back and get a bigger tackle box
But I'm ready to do it all again next weekend!

What side of the wall do you guys fish? Or does it matter? Having recently moved back to the coast, its only an hour and a half drive for me.

It looks like you hit it during the worst time of the day.

Worst idea ever. Is there a competition I don't know about to see who can come up with the dumbest most infuriating shite?
Posted on 3/23/15 at 7:28 pm to 4LSU2
Yea I couldn't fish the afternoon bc I had a crawfish boil to go to. But I did fish the minor peak.

Why would you think that and why does it bother you so much? It's a great idea for the Slidell stop, which is the only stop that's going to allow a trailer start.
