The title indicates the movie will be about the scientific research of one of the greatest minds in human history. But instead we get this incredibly boring look at the struggles of caring for him. Why is that interesting to anyone?!

I finally tapped out half way through when it was clear we were not going to be getting a Beautiful Mind type of movie. I also have no idea what Eddie Redmayne said once he was full blown ALS. I honestly did not understand one word of it. I needed subtitles.

A far more interesting movie, and the one I was hoping for, would have been 100% about Hawking researching the cosmos, developing his ideas, and figuring out the math. In my ideal movie, we would never even know if he had a family or friends, it would be entirely about the science.

What a waste of $1.64 from Redbox.

This may be why my opinion is so different from many on this board, but I am incapable of caring any less about interpersonal relationships. I have no interest in love stories or the struggles portrayed in this movie. I really just do not care about people in general, so this sort of movie is definitely not for me.

I don't care for Jim Carrey, though hate is a strong word.

I think Will Ferrell is hilarious and enjoy all of his movies.

Maybe if you read some reviews or a simple summary you would have known not to rent it. I blame only you.

I agree but this would only appeal to a small minority. The general public wants sappy love stories.

He's the guy that loves the shitty Star Wars books, hates any character that is morally ambiguous, and generally has the taste of a 7 year old.

It sounds like it is about string theory. Which is completely unproven and likely 100% bullshite.

Also, the Anthropic Principle can suck a dick.

Only a part of it. But what the title exactly indicates is that it is about a theory of everything: "a single, unifying equation to explain it all... wouldn'the that be nice?"

It is this film's position that such an equation from the human perspective is love. Opening yourself and committing yourself to another is the most complete and meaningful thing a person can do; it is why we are here. Hawking says as much when at the culmination of his career, the one thing that enthralls and wonders him most of all is the beauty of the family they created.

That is the theme of the movie - the theme set up by the perfectly fitting title.

Well, I have no interest in any of that. I turned the movie off before it got into that hippie bs.

That's fair. But you really should have realized it was more romance than anything before going in; it's not like any of the marketing/hype/etc kept that a secret.

But aside from all that "hippie bs", I thought it was a very well made movie. And Redmayne was absolutely incredible

The entire point of A Beautiful Mind was "love conquers all."

Zero chance you thought the movie would've been framed like that.

I definitely did not get that out of the movie, not even remotely. I took more as John Nash overcoming his schizophrenia by strength of will in addition to his wonderful game theory.

It had been probably 5 months since I saw a trailer, and, while I knew the love story would play a part, I hoped against hope that it would still be primarily about the science. I can't fathom anyone enjoying this movie, but to each his own.
