Can I jump in and ask why not.

I'd much rather be in the living room on the couch with a 70" than hunched over at a desk back in the study

I don't have any consoles, so I don't quite understand the reasoning for running it through the XBox, unless you're just out of HDMI ports on the TV and don't want to have to keep changing them. In which case, anything interrupting a video signal's direct path is going to introduce latency, but I have no idea whether it would be 1ms or 200ms.

As for couch PC gaming on the TV, lots of people do it, and it seems popular among people who are transitioning away from console. It's not my thing, but since I also work full time at my computer, I actually have a chair meant for 8+ hours use:

I can sit in that chair for far longer than I can tolerate a couch.

Of course, you're also wasting potential by gaming on a 1080P TV with a $1200 rig. You could always just go 2x NVIDIA DSR on some games to render at double resolution, which cuts down on the aliasing a bit. Though it won't help you a whole lot if you're the type who thinks sitting 5 feet away from a 75-inch 1080p panel is somehow immersive. Also, if you plan to play any online FPS, using a mouse and keyboard from a couch is cumbersome.

why play on an inferior display? why pay for that gpu and not take advantage of it with a legit monitor ? Why did he buy a PC in the first place if he wants to stick to a controller, play most of his games on console, and play on a big screen TV.

OP, if you want to hook it up to your TV then go ahead. When I first got my pc I tried that and found myself going back to the monitor almost immediately. If it works for you, then great. I just found it not to be ideal.

I plan on getting a nice monitor soon. I am just asking advice on how what I'm doing would work. I've spent a good bit of money in the last month on this and some hue lights for my sister's birthday and a new go pro for my mom's birthday. But the main reason is I haven't found a desk I like enough to put the monitor on it.

I bought a pc because I needed one, thought it would be fun to put together and because I could. I didn't say I wanted to play all my games on console. I'm getting a computer so I can try it out. I'm just asking some questions looking for advice. What monitor would you recommend or what will my setup be able to produce
