What's your shtick? Acting above everyone?

The slob knobbing from this circle jerking group of particular posters (same people in every thread) is insufferable.

wreaks of insecurity. If you know you have good food and a good product, there is no need to even entertain yelp reviews in this manner.

The rest was unnecessarily abrasive, but not so much so that it would dissuade me from giving the place a try if I lived down there.

Calling someone an idiot is more than just unnecessarily abrasive.

Anyone feel like grabbing lunch over there?

Wise, REG, Zealot?

I could go for fries and a good beer.
Maybe convince them to bring the chicken livers back.

I'll stop by Harrys and pick up some sandpaper on my way. Take care of that table issue.

Good idea, I would hate for Zealot's dress to rip.

Any restaurant owner who goes into Yelp and starts arguing with people over their reviews is just asking for trouble. Big trouble.

His comeback response of maybe you should try Subway or Jimmy Johns tells you everything you need to know about the guy.

Yep. Totally disregards that there may be places of the same kind/at the same price point that are better.

It is like the inverse when someone calls Chili's bad and the retort is "We can't all eat 5-star places every night!".. as if your only two options in life are Chili's or French Laundry.

Sammich or Subway.

When a woman sits at a table with an unsanded underside, as soon as she crosses her legs, her stockings or pantyhose get pulls on them. This will also happen to sweater fabric, silk, etc.

I completely understand this since I am woman. And, normally, the unsanded underparts are not in restaurants with cloth napkins which can provide some clothing protection. Sorry, he's got an abc gum problem. I would think you could expect to have to clean the underside of your tables in casual joints. Just one of those things based on the mix of clientele. He's much more concerned with the gum on his tables than he is about his customers, apparently. That's what that tells me.

I don't mind owners defending themselves. It's all in the delivery, though, by both the person critiquing and the owner. Same as on this board. You certainly don't have to like what someone else eats or does and you may certainly express that and perhaps offer suggestions if you like (which is a good thing here), but it's only going to matter if the delivery is appropriate. The substance is otherwise lost. Telling people their dishes looks like shitavo or something similar doesn't do anything but tick people off and turn a thread into a shitavo fest. This owner is a perfect example of that. He's turned most people in this thread off completely. He's turned me off, for sure, not that I would be headed there in the first place.

I think he could have made very valid points about the cost of the sandwiches, quality of ingredients and the value of the drinks and why he can low price those, but most of that was lost with his table explanation which made him look downright silly, to me, anyway. Atmosphere is a matter of taste and some of it depends on the type of place the owner intends. For some it won't matter and for others, it may.

This guy needs to be less sensitive about critiques and more sensitive about customers. His first sentence is obnoxious and slamming other places in his defense is not impressive. If I were him, I'd go back and delete that entire post.

I do think it would be interesting for him to see this thread. He might be enlightened or maybe not. I'm not sure he's salvageable.

I don't think he's salvageable. One horrible reply is maybe a bad day. But several...including calling a customer an idiot is just wrong on every level.

And telling people to go to Milk Bar cause they'll give you a sucker shows right there that he knows that Milk Bar serves the same quality food at more reasonable prices, and far better service.
